Interesting announcement this morning regarding a European acquisition. Looks to be earnings enhancing unless some kind of equity issue is to follow.

Yes I tend to agree. The strong trading update seems to reaffirm the Board's decision here.

If present valuation is approx. 29 without a bid then a buyer should pay a premium for a successful company

Strong update - perhaps no surprise......

With current mkts, read across from SMDS update and the reaction there and this mornings update I reckon we'd be hovering around £28-£29 regardless at the open independent of IP et al........(not even taking into account the valuation gap to peers......)

Speculation is mounting that Smurfit Kappa may be talking to a rival merger partner, such as London-listed Mondi.

Sources said Mondi is understood to be working with advisers from NM Rothschild and UBS on "consolidation in the sector".

Peer and sector-wise £31/£32 seems a 'fair' price without a bid....

Would suggest a healthy 25% - 30% premium to this would be a realistic takeout figure....reckon that's how SKG management see's it......
