13/3/2002 09:38 | Spaceman Agree, there are lots of ways to discipline children without violence. I just thank goodness that my sons on the whole are quite good natured. Recently when I told my elder son I was fed up with him being moody that day for no apparent reason, he said 'Well it is not my fault, it is my hormones' Now where have I heard that before. I had to laugh, so did he! | llucky

13/3/2002 09:29 | ruth My son started and has now stopped. I hope I have got through to him as he is nearly 17 and we have a good rapport and can discuss anything, which is great. I am really anti smoking as it exposes them more readily to drugs, but at this stage I would rather know what he is up to so it is a thin line between getting through to them and alienating them. I now have an agreement with my younger son that if he does not smoke or do drugs by a certain age he gets a financial inducement, that is still being negotiated! Yes bribery, but if it works. Actually, maybe I should add a clause that if he does smoke, he will have to eat one. That should do it! | llucky

13/3/2002 09:23 | LLUCKY, trouble is it would probably end up with them in hospital, personally I think that anyone who did that should be prosecuted, taking the cruel to be kind thing a bit further we could extend the analogy eg. to stop them getting violent, they could punch them a few times, when looked at like that it obviously wrong. PS I don't have any children. | spaceman

So far I have not smoked 474 cigarettes, saved £102.12, and extended my life by 1 day, 15 hours and 35 minutes... | chaspebble
