Something is cooking. RNS on Bloomberg. 'Smith and Nephew have received no further US Dept of Justice subpoena since March 2005'. Do not think that this would warrant the drop then the rise but seems like this is the only new news in the public domain. Watching with interest

Good size bounce about due in my opinion. Am leaning towards good news, seems a classic dropping of the price then release info tomorrow then large investors who started the drop pick them up very cheaply. Could very well go the other way but looking at historic share price would be highly out of the ordinary for Smith and Nephew to drop much further.

Probably only bid rumours that keep this stock at the level it is. Mergers etc seem to have been discounted by the company but they would say that wouldn't they !!!

I cannot find any news anywhere so results are a worry
However a couple of weeks ago, there was a similar slide on Jardine Thompson and the following day there was a bid rumour and the price gained 100p. Since no bid followed I think hedge funds were shorting on day one and forced to buy back on day two
If SN. can bounce 100p tomorrow I will be happy

Does anyone know why the sale of the 2 wound care products to Advanced BioHealing is not reported through ADVFN? Also there is a statement from the company buying but not Smith & Nephew outling benefits of the sales?

It is not exactly a great time to be changing your reporting to $USD when the dollar is under serious pressure!
Bad timing or what!
Long term pretty safe bet but will be subject to negative sentiment in the short term.

The European launch went well then... This Footsie sell off is getting a bit stupid, but money to be made on the correction.

Does anyone know how large the market for "a Birmingham " might be in the States ? If its a real improvement on other methods it should take off. Has anyone else going for FDA approval of an equivalent ?

A "Birmingham"?

If I looked that up in "The Oxford Concise Profanisaurus" would the meaning be something to do with being a "Palm Pilot" (i.e. DIY), "dropping the kids off at the pool" or "domestic chemical warfare"?

I first noticed SN. when they had an earnings surprise. Was that more than four quarters ago? Blimey how time flies!

They have disappointed at each of the last four quarters and there may be a credibility issue for the management team. The company needs to start hitting or beating numbers.

Does anyone have an opinion on this in the short term? Looking at going long. From charts 440-443 seems ideal point but unsure if it will get down that far before correction. Long term looks a given, back up to atleast 500 within a couple of months. IMO

phb

welcome to the UK. Next thing will be a VC or a foreign predator coming in with an offer of 500p and all the institutions standing in line ready to accept. And that will mean another great technology / industrial loss to Britain.

Of course, there is always Tescos - that where our future will have to lie.

I am buying big time

The results were not all that bad - it does seem a bit churlish to mark them down so much, as the price now is nearly a 3 yr low.
