I notice Best.Energy a leading energy efficiency company is working with SMS.
From their LinkedIn account "This week in the office we welcomed the SMS plc team for a kick-off meeting for a large multi-site project that we're collaborating on.Various members of our Best.Energy team from the Projects, Commercial and Technical departments joined to ensure that we're perfectly synchronised heading into the program. Having a team with the right mix of skills and experience will be essential to maximising the energy savings results for our client. This was a really valuable meeting and we are pleased that we got to have it in person as there really is no replacement for face-to-face interaction!"
I think that energy efficiency is a natural area for SMS to continue to expand into. Good stuff.

I think the problem here is that the yield is no longer looking attractive and the chart does nothing to suggest capital gains short term at least. Other than that the business looks sound.

Maybe there will be a reverse after the mini budget next week.
I don’t think they are really exposed to price caps or windfall taxes….think the battery operation is a service to the generator rather than an electricity trading business.

Another board commented todays movement could be a result of the windfall tax proposed by the EU. I can’t see how that really bites SMS.

A large element of the value is in the installed asset base so you have to add fixed assets to the cash (which is a net +ve position).
A few years ago they sold a portion for £££…hence low debt and ability to pay a dividend and build new assets.
When it matures, it can refinance with debt and payout like utilities to shareholders.

New to this stock and thread. This looks like a well run company and seems to be moving in the right direction. . . . But where is the over 1bill valuation comming from? Circa 10m prof and circa 100m cash pile. Either they have an extensive, exceptional growth plan or I'm missing something. Or even more possible my figures are completely wrong. Ready to be enlightened.

Good to see this share price continue to rise- 960p now- as commented earlier I think it has a lot further to go. New CEO very impressive, and CFO "old-school" scottish accountant- will keep a tight rein on expenses! Really like this stock

The battery only needs replacing in gas meters every 10 yrs (and not at all in electricity meters) and the latest meters signal to the provider when due to be replaced in good time before any failure can occur. A single visit in 10 years is a lot better than a meter reader visiting say 20 times in 10 years.
The grid-scale battery projects are an interesting part of the business which I can see growing rapidly going forwards.

Excellent update today…..CaRe assets starting to pay off…..if margins can be maintained there looks to be £70+m EBITDA in the battery pipeline. 50MW in operation 40MW built and in commissioning stage.

Another anti smart meter story in the times today…gist is they keep failing.

The battery needs to be replaced every 10 years and the technology is ripped up every few years….they need to move to 5G in 2030.

Not necessarily bad news for installers and operators….regular upgrading work needed providing s stream of fee opportunities.
