Discount stores such as ShoeZone should benefit at the expense of premium priced stores e.g. Clarkes when times are tough. Also importantly ShoeZone has no debt to service as interest rates rise. This is just a blip following a strong rally. Nothing goes up in a straight line or investing would be too easy!

That's my guess.

Is this just a case of the retail sector suffering due to the cost of lockdown crisis and spiralling energy costs?

Does 95% of their stock still come from China?I notice that their inventories at cost is equivalent to about 8 months of sales (going on a gross margin of 28%, excl VAT) so hope they've scaled up on winter/new year stock to mitigate potential China lockdowns this winter.Other than that risk this is starting to look interesting IMO.

That's quite a dump of 69,764 @ 137p reported late. Hopefully an indication of an exited seller and the reason why the market quote dipped to 140p on the Bid

Not surprised at pullback after that run. But at least gives opportunity to buy back shares for Treasury at a better level - 176yesterday

Yes they are fixed until September.
Plus they have autumn/winter stock from late shipping arrivals last year.
Debt free plus loads of cash.
Interest rates rising so pension surplus rising.
I agree more people will be using them due to the cost of living crisis.

They had their summer range delivered early this year as a precaution so imagine they have done the same at least in part with the autumn/winter range.

Well oversold in my opinion.

I thought they were tied in with electricity until sept 2023?

All those stores yes, but ShoeZone should benefit as shoppers desert Clarke's etc for discounted shoes. That's what I've done, especially now that ShoeZone offer discounted branded goods.

I can't imagine how much of a dent this winter's heating bills for all those stores will put in profits. See RNK trading update for interesting comment.

I hope there is no other reason for this drop other than the strike???

I would buy more but worried it may drop further.

Exactly, looking at MKS and NEXT the drop is grossly overdone here, possibly due to lighter trading meaning wider swings.

No Bounthunter, no other clothing, has dropped like this

This won't do the buybacks any harm as only likely to be temporary.

If the Felixstowe strike remains at 8 days presumably any effect will be contained! ;)

Seems like a gross overreaction to the current limited schedule of just 8 days. Are other clothing retailers dependent on imports (which is most of them) falling to this extent?

Oh yes of course. Thanks for reminding me.
Good buying opportunity?
How low can it go?

I am guessing it is the fear that the Felixstowe strike will affect supplies.

Any thoughts?

Just bought a discounted pair of branded hiking shoes with a further £5 discount for registering online. A very smooth process with free delivery and easy return if necessary to any ShoeZone shop. Why go elsewhere and pay more?

Hit 205 today before falling back. Still very strong momentum and not surprising. Was in a store on a Friday morning a couple of weeks ago and it was really busy. Has a good range of offerings now for higher end and cheaper shoes - many people are trading down so think it is a good share to hold in recession especially with both buybacks and dividends kicking in.
