I think we should give the company time now, primary objective well was successful, now they need time to analyse the 3d fully for further drilling in future, I would imagine they will not do anymore drilling on SD this year, but still sdx have a very busy h2 in current year. Imho

The reference to the depth of the oil targets wasn't the Malcy interview but this one at 1.55 mins. Pw mentions 10-12,000 ft.

Also wanted a head start on what they suspected was there, an active hydrocarbon system. The next drill is now derisked for oil and paul says there is still an oil play below SD-1X they could go for due to what they found.

I think the key thing here is that there was enough to justify drilling for oil and probably the reason they chose that location first. The way I view it is that they were very confident of gas and wanted to know what was beneath in the deeper areas, hoping that it was oil, which was being demonstrated by the 3D.

....The 3D was a positive indicator for gas (the bright spot), on the oil front it just showed potential traps for oil

yes pauliewonder, this simply is ground floor investing at its finest for those who know what they are investing in & with a time horizon longer than a few days.

Perhaps they'll try the same area again in the future, targeting even lower depths.

The reason I made reference to PW mentioning 13,000 ft (I'm sure it was in the January Malcy interview) is that the Cretaceous oil discoveries in the W.desert are deeper than the horizons they were targeting here.
Pure conjecture but had they not encountered well stability issues, they might have drilled even deeper. They were already over 700 ft below 10,300 ft.

"We are going to close this well off and then we'll try for these horizons in other parts of the conscession and also beneath where we are in the SD1X well, there's still potential there."

Couldn't be clearer to me.

Sorry, but for some reason it will not let me post that Proactive link, that has already been posted ?
Any way that's what PW said and the link is on the previous page.

I know oil was not the main target.

Paul Welch said this:

"We've essentially stopped here, we are going to close this well off and then we'll try for these horizons in other parts of the concession and also beneath where we are in the SDX-1 well, there's still potential there".

What does he mean when he say's "beneath where we are in the SDX-1 well, there's still potential there."?

shakey,

I took it to mean deeper sandstone targets in the general area.

There may well be oil deeper in this structure, we won't know unless they drill appraisals of the discovery and go deeper.

I look at it like this.
It was never the original intention to drill for oil in this well but given the small extra cost it was worthwhile to check what they had seen on the 3d and prove a working hydrocarbon system.
Job done on all fronts. They must now be licking their lips at what the real oil targets on the 3d might hold.

Cash, that's not what I meant. He seemed to be saying that directly below the drill, there is potential. Where's that drill diagram, with the Abu-Madi sands and the lower oil targets? Did they not drill all the way to the bottom?

shakey

The oil was very much the secondary target at SD1X.
SD Deep 1X around 10 kms to the west of SD1X is the main oil bearing target, containing the larger structure. P26 on the presentation.
They have proved up the source and as operator were presumably happy to have achieved THEIR main objectives for around £350k.
Logically, to test the next well we are talking 55% of $3-4 million and who knows what might happen re the majors, who were already sniffing around on pre drill data.

The oil horizons were in the Cretaceous and in pre drill interviews PW mentioned 13000 ft. They drilled to 11068ft, so that ties in with his comment about deeper potential in SD1X.

Yup, I'm back in here too at .55. There seems to be a very clear reversion to trend. And the trend looks strong.

shakeypremis,

No you didn't. Its definitely a technical success, even if not a commercial one. There is a working petroleum system in the area.

The oil target sands were thin and did not look commercial underneath the Abu-Madi discovery. The question is where have the HC's migrated towards and accumulated in a thicker group of sands?

They need to look at the model again, reassess it and (I believe) eventually they'll unearth it.

I didn't imagine that Paul Welch said that there was potential further down, beneath the distance that they drilled this time around did I?

Good interview, testing will take around 2 months, ramadhan is coming up on the 27th may I think which will slow things down.

So by early July we should know results. We will move our concentrations to Moroccan assets.
