19/7/2005 12:09 | Good morning coogar : does this announcement make the takeover more or less likely "SABMiller is buying South America's No.2 brewer Bavaria in an agreed $4.8 billion (2.7 billion pound) deal to tap fast-growing beer markets and take on regional leader InBev" | a0002577
18/7/2005 16:47 | I was only teasing you! Such strong support at 460. Good luck holding. | tokyogirl
18/7/2005 13:30 | Have faith. Just cos you're unlikely to get your 445p, no need to sound so negative. | coogar
17/7/2005 20:01 | Sneaking feeling? That's not good enough from you coogar. I think a very long and winding road to any takeover offer is more appropriate especially after Barclays had jumped ship big time on Friday. | tokyogirl
14/7/2005 18:02 | SCTN seem to have settled into a 460p-490p trading range now. Coogar reiterates STRONG HOLD, price target 514p Regarding any takoever offer, I do have a sneaky feeling that it may be only just around the corner, but that's all it is... a sneaky feeling, and a potentially long corner. | coogar

12/7/2005 18:11 | Of course TTG looks dodgy. That's why I bought it when I did! I have made it very clear that I consider it to be a risk. IF and when it reaches 175p I will take another look at the situation. As far as director purchases go, however much money they might have I'm sure they prefer not to chuck it down the drain. After outperforming for many months, my portfolio took a bit of a dip during the first two weeks in June, when it only 'traded in line'. Since then it has started to power ahead again, thanks to SCTN (of course!) my recent LLoy purchase, et al. :) | coogar
12/7/2005 11:06 | coogar well done except for TTG which looks very dodgy. Try to get out at around 175ish if you can. It will have further to fall. Besides profit warnings are like buses coming one after another. I wouldn't take directors' buying too seriously, they have plenty of money to splash about. | tokyogirl
11/7/2005 18:19 | I'm with Lehman Bros. Almost word for word. My upgrade - a few weeks back - was from 485p(ex-450p) to 514p, but then that is well known by all those that frequent this board. Plus of course, at my purchase price the yield is 5.6%... eh, AO and Girlie ;) Also, in an act of defiance to the recent terrorism, I added the following to my portfolio on Friday, both mainly on yield and valuation grounds:- Lloy @ 477p - a few pence higher than I had hoped for but beaten by technology when an earlier quote timed out on me! TTG @ 162p - On my watch list since May when the directors were buying shedloads (i.e. one bought 50k @ 157p if I recall correctly). Following Friday's surprise(?) profit warning I couldn't resist. Probably the riskiest share in my portfolio overall, however I take the view that one has to speculate to accumulate - and that's about as close as you're gonna get from me likening investing to gambling (which of course it isn't) ! | coogar
11/7/2005 16:04 | DJ MARKET TALK: Lehman Ups Scottish & Newcastle To Overweight 0627 GMT [Dow Jones] Lehman Brothers upgrades Scottish & Newcastle (SCTN.LN) to overweight from neutral, increases target price to 510p from 460p based on DCF valuation. Believes a bid for S&N continues to have "high probability" and could command around 600p. Cites potential upside both on a stand-alone basis and on a bid scenario and dividend yield of 4.4% as reason for upgrade. Shares closed Friday at 483p. (PBA) | utime
10/7/2005 16:49 | UK brewing group Scottish & Newcastle was downgraded to 'hold' from 'buy' at Deutsche Bank citing valuation grounds. The change of heart comes as the German broker said Scottish & Newcastle is within 2% of its 500p price target. | madgooner
08/7/2005 16:22 | An interesting end to today, if current trading activity continues. Could a bid materialise as early as Monday? | coogar
08/7/2005 15:59 | I frequently travel to London by train and use the tube extensively during my visits. So I am also feeling a bit shaky, even though I actually live 100+ miles away from yesterday's events. Glad you're OK. | coogar
08/7/2005 15:49 | Good to know you are OK. Don't know why but I thought you were based in London. Anyway it's irrelevant now. I went to London yesterday morning by train and had a lucky escape, am still a bit shaky. Life is precious. | tokyogirl
08/7/2005 14:01 | "My best guess is a bid from SAB - maybe as high as 550p?" Coogar, 6th July. Looks like I just managed to beat the Mail to it? | coogar
08/7/2005 14:00 | Don't know quite how to take your comments TokyoGirl, in light of yesterday's atrocities. However, not only am I not based in London but thankfully am safe and well. | coogar
08/7/2005 11:36 | I'm a bit concerned there's no sign of coogar. I believe he's based in London and remember he was saying how hot he was wearing a woolly jumper and owning woolly shares when there's a heatwave in London a few weeks ago. Anyway hope he's safe and well. And well done for holding SCTN. My 445 looks more and more like a distant possibility. | tokyogirl
07/7/2005 10:07 | Whoops - down again | a0002577
07/7/2005 09:16 | SABMILLER said to be lining up a 585 pence-a-share, 5.2 bln stg tilt at SCOTTISH & NEWCASTLE - Mail | madgooner
07/7/2005 08:11 | Well done Mayall. Don't think Diageo's figures have helped this morning | imbigred
06/7/2005 17:51 | The only bid affecting the price at the moment is the Olympic Bid. Down again tomorrow. BETCHA | mayall
06/7/2005 17:26 | 550 is too low-i think min 600-650 | bigbury
06/7/2005 17:16 | Long time in this game. So, should've learned by now not to get too excited though, eh? | coogar
06/7/2005 17:12 | Very happy, AO! And nice to see you making a rare appearance when the price is rising! You beat me to it, I'm afraid. But I'm gonna say it anyway... What's it feel like to be 'blown out of the water'? Same goes for you too girlie and your 445p My best guess is a bid from SAB - maybe as high as 550p? | coogar
06/7/2005 16:33 | WOW ! what's all this about? await the 'bid rumour' ? | madgooner |
