This is more hopeful.

NVIDIA has quietly launched its RTX 5880 Ada Generation graphics card that is designed for professional graphics applications. The product is designed to be compliant with the latest U.S. export regulations for China and can be shipped to the People's Republic without restrictions.18 hours ago

I heard that China is affected by a slow down, too, at the moment but haven't read your posts to find what the disagreement is about.

Yawn. Yawn. Yawn.

The number 1 and number 2 largest investment banks in the world predict a rising market for China in 2024 - but as always our resident fool claims to know better.

quepassa - thanks for your advice, which you'll be pleased to hear I'm totally ignoring.

Sure, Chinese markets have trended down in recent years. But there's trending down, then there's dropping like a stone. Your friend JP Morgan's China "Growth" and Income Fund certainly falls into the latter category.

Which is odd if - as you claim - they're "the pre-eminment (sic) and most highly respected global investment bank."

But I'm sure you're right. So you just carry on respecting them.

Extraordinary day in US yesterday with barely a tick down as tech motored from the off. Last weeks downturn seems to have been the result of tax harvesting. The SMT focus areas seem in strong demand at the moment so I bought in earlier.

YAWN.

Every time you open your mouth, you never fail to display your general ignorance nor just what an unpleasant piece of work you are.

You are mixing up underperformance with market performance.

Nearly all China funds are down due to the whole market being down and eschewed by investors over the last few years - that doesn't mean you can't hold a view as to future performance.

JPM is the pre-eminment and most highly respected global investment bank.

And I- as well as many others- think their opinion counts for a lot.

If you don't think JPM are an authority on China, you can educate and elucidate yourself here. Start by looking at the "Contact Us" section:-

My advice to you is to keep your mouth shut in future.

JPM & Goldman Sachs both offer Chinese funds which have underperformed horrendously of late. So they’re hardly authorities on the subject.

Both JP Morgan and Goldmans are predicting a rebound of the China stock markets in 2024.

Both houses are forecasting that the MSCI China Index with close UP by 18% to y/e 31/12/24.

...hmmm

Refer to FT p11 of 4/1/24.

Things rarely go up in a straight line.
However there have been some positive opinions and results lately that brighten the outlook for SMT.

Here is the article that I meant to post before.

'In response, companies perceived to be the AI winners have seen their share prices bid up, with NVIDIA Corp NVDA

2.70%
leading the way. The company, which manufactures the computer chips that leading AI systems are developed and implemented on, has seen its share price rise by 162% year-to-date (to 8 June). Chris Ford, fund manager of Sanlam Global Artificial Intelligence, described Nvidia as the most important company in the AI space.

Artificial intelligence: is the hype real, and how to invest in the winners
The funds and trusts profiting from Nvidia’s unstoppable rise
Stockwatch: could Nvidia be stock of the century?

The big technology giants, at the forefront of AI innovation, have also seen their share prices boosted, namely Apple Inc AAPL

3.76%
, Microsoft, Amazon.com Inc AMZN

1.36%
, Meta, Tesla Inc TSLA

0.07%
and Alphabet. Along with Nvidia, these seven stocks account for around 90% of gains on Walls Street’s S&P 500 this year. The index is up around 10% year-to-date.

Following that and very important but doesn't seem to have registered with many is this....
'1. Nvidia to Launch a Slower Gaming Chip in China to Meet U.S. Export Rules

Chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) is set to release a new gaming processor with slower performance in China to meet U.S. export restrictions. Nvidia said it worked closely with the U.S. government during the development of the new Nvidia RTX 4090D, which has 11% fewer processing cores than non-Chinese models. Nvidia shares dropped after the company's third-quarter earnings release had analysts concerned about the impact of the export restrictions. Shares were up 0.20% in the pre-market with the news of the chip adjustment.'
