03/12/2023 20:49 | It seems to me the attitude of SMT fund managers towards their private retail investors is one of "Give me your money and don't ask any questions." | loganair
02/12/2023 21:27 | hazl - nothing we don't already know really. A lot of funds are currently trading at a huge discount to NAV. SMT has rarely traded at much of a premium to NAV, but the gap became unusually wide (i.e. a large discount to NAV) between January & September this year. Since then, it has narrowed slightly but is still substantial. | lord loads of lolly

30/11/2023 18:33 | It is what it is and these sort of stocks will always be influenced most of all, by the general market sector, in turn reflecting political and economic events. So to some extent I agree. However good to read up on their investments and glean a picture of their insights and reasons for buying. I have learnt some interesting info along the way. For instance, I am ashamed to admit I was rather in the dark about the size of the surace area of the moon. Rather saddened in a way to think about them mining it, but perhaps it's better than further plaguing our earth resources. Did I say that is about the same size of Africa, in terms of surface area? I was amazed. | hazl
30/11/2023 12:35 | NAV discount is closing. Currently around 12%. Not that long ago it was 20%. Suggests sentiment may be starting to improve marginally. But of course, things could always go into reverse again. We really need to see this trend being sustained over the next six months or so, before drawing any conclusions. | lord loads of lolly

29/11/2023 10:05 | The next article was again the Times ' The stocks that could boost your retirement fund 900%' by David Brenchley. Now it cites previous winners from 2013 which might be easy to do in retrospect, but it goes onto say how to find companies that might be winners going forward. He suggests the semi conductor sector as a starting point. Ian Mortimer states chips are used in so many sectors now that they ought to be successful in any economic cycle! He says look for firms that aren't super expensive but where returns can compound over time. He said few of the companies providing chips are the same. Nvidia it states is a 'fabless' semiconductor firm which designs and sells the chips. It doesn't make them. It says share prices might have soared this year but they are still reasonable in these chip companies. I haven't time to write the different suggestions, here but it finishes with a caution. 'Finding ten bagger stocks is not easy. But what's even harder, Mortimer said, was hanging on for the ride.' IMO | hazl
29/11/2023 08:33 | So ought to benefit greatly. IMO | hazl
29/11/2023 08:30 | The space market opportunity is orders of magnitude greater than the value of SMT. SMT is a tiny player in very large markets. | septblues |
