24/10/2008 10:23 | From: Yves Guillemot To: Ubisoft World Sent: Thu Oct 23 18:02:55 2008 Subject: 2008-09 Q2 Sales [French follows] Hello everyone, Today we will be publishing our sales figures for the second quarter 2008-2009. The result is excellent: 175 M in sales, up 37% compared to the same time last year, and exceeding the 160M forecast announced last quarter. This means that our overall sales for the first half of 2008-09 are 344M, up 31.5% compared to the first half of 2007-08. These excellent results can be explained by the successful launches of Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway and SoulCalibur IV in Europe, and also by strong and steady sales for our casual games. New titles like Imagine Teacher, My Secret World or PlayZone Sports Party are already on their way to setting new records. Ubisoft continues to perform strongly in an uncertain market environment. We are closely following shifts in the economy, and despite everything, remain confident in the ability of our industry to pursue hearty growth in 2008-09. This growth will be sustained by increases in the video game console installed base and the continuous arrival of new consumers. Above all, I'm convinced that the quality and diversity of our line-up, as well as our expertise in distribution, puts us in an ideal position to continue gaining market share. During this upcoming holiday season, we will be able to demonstrate this, with the release of many highly anticipated hits: Far Cry 2, Tom Clancy's EndWar and Prince of Persia for gamers, Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party and PlayZone for families, Shaun White for extreme sports fans, and last but not least, all of the new titles in our casual range: Petz, Imagine, My Coach, Jake Power and Planet Rescue. Positive first semester sales, combined with a favorable Euro-USD exchange rate and promising prospects for the third trimester, make it possible for us to increase our forecasts. We now expect to bring in 1.05 billion in sales (compared to the previously announced 1.02 billion) over fiscal year 2008-09. Current operating income before stock options should reach 13% of sales, as opposed to 12% previously announced. Congratulations for these results: it's thanks to all of your work in production, business and support that Ubisoft is able to continue pursuing its ambitious growth objectives. This year-end promises to be particularly dense; for the first time, we will be releasing several blockbusters at the same time. I'm aware of the challenges that this represents for you, especially at a time when you are racing to finish your games and to make sure that each title gets the promotion and in-store visibility it deserves. The holiday season is fast-approaching and the competition is fierce this year. I know your talent and commitment, as well as the quality of our line-up, and have no doubt that we can rise to the challenge. Keep up the good work and let's shoot for a record third quarter! 24/10/2008 08:55 | Post 157 on 17th October gave my calculation of the cash flow position. UBI soft recent "− Solid sales turned in by casual games " could apply to SEG. See recent list of games in the header. | togglebrush
24/10/2008 08:51 | Whats segs cash position? Are they in imminent danger of running out of cash after last years big loss if they're not bought out soon? | eric76

24/10/2008 07:30 | UBIsoft press release, when downloaded in PDF format from their Corporate Web site, has some interesting sales data and forecast attached. Sales forecasts for UBIsoft are roughly £800 million. Those for SEG are roughly £200 million (which is well above LY). i.e. UBI are 4 times as big as SEG. They seem to be targeting the same platforms and customer profiles. This can be seen in the titles released by UBI and those on Game.co.uk for SEG. 24/10/2008 06:07 | UBIsoft has a similar, but larger, selection of games to the new SEG selection for the full range of platforms for hard-core to casual gamers. I posted the report on this from their August press release. Below are extracts from their recent, 23rd October, press releases and the link ", buoyed by the increase in the installed base for consoles coupled with the steady influx of new consumers. At the same time, we believe that thanks to the diversity and quality of Ubisoft's games line-up which caters to both hard-core and casual gamers we are ideally positioned to continue to win market share in the coming years." − Solid sales turned in by casual games including new titles such as Imagine® Teacher, My Secret World by Imagine and PlayZone Sports Party. Outlook Increase expected for first-half current operating income Based on currently available information, ... This rise mainly reflects the leverage effect on structure costs related to the strong increase in sales, as well as the favorable impact of the "Games for Everyone" range which requires a low level of R&D expenditure. As can be seen from the header SEG have doubled their "Games for Everyone" range this year and have a large selection of games for the holiday season including 4 NEW games out TODAY. | togglebrush

23/10/2008 16:57 | dealy, yes I agree. I don't think they are specifically referring to SCi (before the rumours start) but they would fall into that category and if you really, really wanted to look for things that probably aren't there then the phrase "...or cut their investments" could be a message to TW. | darrens
23/10/2008 16:51 | why don't we merge TTWO, UBI, and SEG all onto this thread? It's not as if there's so much traffic it would get confusing? | queeny2
23/10/2008 16:51 | Thanks Darren. Sci would have to be a target "small acquisition". | dealy
23/10/2008 16:19 | Darren just saw it appear as a flash on CNBC this afternoon after the close. Also the website refers to results from the 23rd of October (today) which I can't download. How do you figure it was yesterday? | dealy |
