Old timer - financially I can certainly afford it, psychologically I'm not so sure. It's the sort of place elderly Brits go when they want to keep up appearances but can't afford to do so at home. Certainly an "astute" move though - if you are financially constrained. :)

French Oil giant " Total " to donate 100 mill euros to rebuild Notre Dame.
That'll be a nice tax write off plus fantastic PR... win win.

Loz,
as opposed to " mental planks " which are so prevalent on a certain LSE BB.

Loz,
agreed, someone has a very hefty claim coming their way, the magnitude of which is directly proportional to the inactivity of the Parisian fire service... what a shambles they turned out to be.
Also.. did you notice that whilst the Cathedral roof was burning like kindling wood, that most of the scaffolding planks remained in tact ? I thought that was strange to say the least.

I do hope that the fire was due to the ongoing building works, and theres nothing more sinister.

WW,
job done ?
I've never said anything other than i make mistakes, its not an issue for me, "to er to be human ". Like i said, its not making mistakes thats a crime, its not acknowledging or learning from your mistakes, that is the crime.
And for the record, the rest of my portfolio is mainly made up of high yielding main index stocks, coupled with a few other AIM stocks 3 of which have performed very well indeed, one is at parity, and two are about 30% down, as we speak.

Putting all your eggs in one basket is investment suicide, contrary to what a village idiot advocates.

Bermuda - yes, many of us fall into the category of hoping for positive newsflow and being wrong. We don't fall into the category of repeatedly suggesting we are right whether the shares go up or down, as pl0nker tosh does. His (alleged) freebies tell us little about the risk he is taking on his SCLP position. For all we know the rest of his portfolio is now worthless, and the only thing he has left is his (alleged) freebies. It appears the pl0nker has difficulty accepting he has got it wrong despite where the shares have moved - amusing given he spends 24/7 here accusing someone else of the same weakness :)

WW,
if your message was designed to get an admission that i got it wrong, then yes 100% i got it wrong.
I have no problem in acknowledging that what so ever.
I get many things wrong, investing isn't an exact science, there are always the unexpected pitfalls that rear their ugly head and catch you out.
But, these are lessons that should be learnt from.
If you just keep doing the same thing and never learn from your mistakes, the market will crush you, and you will end up with a few hundred thousand shares at 45p, whose value is now 5p.
To state that there is a riskless investment in utter nonsense, and anyone saying that there is, has clearly learnt nothing... or is just too egotistical to admit that they got it wrong.

WW,
absolutely, but on the basis of what we were told by the BOD over 3 years ago, i think everyone thought there would be a deal !
The difference is, having identified that the BOD were misleading their shareholders and that there was not going to be a deal, rather than continuing to buy more shares at over inflated prices, some of us traded the share so that we could mitigate the risks by getting our original investment back, and then wait.....

Your problem with that is what exactly ?
You're nearly as bad as that other brainless cretin.
