12/4/2020 18:33 | Or go late afternoon most stuff is still available and no queues can't understand why everyone goes first thing with those ridiculous queues! | tim 3
12/4/2020 17:45 | I think queuing is off putting. But I bought a lot more stuff in Sainsburys because I don't want to have to keep going back to shops. Get it all at once is lowest risk. If I'm only going to do one shop, I'm going to do it at a big 4 supermarket, not corner shop. In fact, Ive seen some anger on social media directed towards smaller shops like Lidl because they aren't being strict enough about social distancing. The big growth area must be home deliveries. If Sainsburys can ramp up deliveries even to meet a fraction of the increased demand, they'll be doing well. And no business Rates to incur for the next 12 months which company says amounts to a savings of £500k+. | whiskeyinthejar
12/4/2020 16:52 | share price will drift possibly to 150p. | sr2day
12/4/2020 16:16 | after queuing for 45 mins in the carpark yesterday i couldn't give a toss about buying easter eggs or anything else just wanted to get my basic food shop and get the hell out of there | spob
12/4/2020 16:11 | predictable also because so many people are not working now and are likely to start wondering how safe their jobs are and so will be keeping their spending to a minimum | spob
12/4/2020 16:09 | I am surprised if sales are down as: 1. I've still see booze is literally still flying off the shelves as the pubs are all closed. 2. I've heard that the average house hold now has to buy an extra 10 to 12 meals per week to cover lunches while at work and going out to the restaurant for the evening. 3. At our local Tesco still very, very low on cereal as it seems to me people are getting up later so are eating breakfast instead of just a morning cup of tea/coffee before going to work. | loganair
12/4/2020 15:54 | Agree very weak article must have taken all of 5 minutes to write! | tim 3
12/4/2020 15:19 | ...a shocking fall in sales..really, seriously?. Largely predictable following a month of many people stockpiling. | essentialinvestor
12/4/2020 14:21 | what percentage of total UK easter egg sales are bought from Thorntons shops Oak Tree ? be surprised if it was more than 1% | spob
12/4/2020 14:12 | Most of those Easter Eggs that had been bought from the likes of Thornton's and other upmarket retails shops (that are now closed), will now be bought from supermarkets. | the oak tree
12/4/2020 09:58 | Easter sales could be well down down can't see people buying anything like the normal amount of eggs especially when they have to queue to get in. | tim 3
11/4/2020 19:40 | Top tip if you want to avoid queues go later in the day most items are available all day now but everyone seems to want to go early. | tim 3
11/4/2020 19:35 | Sainsbury’s. Mis management it’s why the shares languish around 200p, if investors trusted the management the share price would be over 250p by now, shockingly poor record of messing up. I remain unconvinced | ny boy
11/4/2020 19:28 | Argos has over 300 stores in Sainsburys not sure how many stand alone there are but it's decreasing rapidly.60% of sales are online and most collect in store it's the only place where you can collect many online items the same day I think they will be doing ok. | tim 3
11/4/2020 19:12 | well argos is mostly shut during the panic buying peroiod, people mostly stopped buying non food / general merchandise items and clothes they just wanted food and bog rolls lol and you can't take advantage if you cant keep the shelves full from morning till night most people know the shelves were empty most of the time during the panic buying period then there are the extra costs associated with implementing social distancing extra security guards checkout screens / floor markers all over the shop additional replenishment and checkout staff extra staff to compensate for people self isolating etc I went to sainsbury today, 10 am 45 minute queue in the car park just to get into the store (good job it was sunny) then when inside the store it was virtually empty and no queues at all at the checkouts not doing that again, will go somewhere else or use smaller high street shops such as the co-op from now on , until this is all over i guess many customers are doing just that especially elderly and mums with kids | spob
11/4/2020 17:43 | Ive said it before but if a supermarket can't make good money out of this situation then something is wrong. Not exceptional money but good, well up money. I think Sainsbury is maybe the best choice due to its size, focus on quality food, and without too many other distractions that Tesco for example has. However I realise its got a banking arm which wont be doing much business. Probably the biggest worry is they will be ultra cautious in what they say during their trading update at the end of April. Hopefully Tesco taken some of the heat out of that topic. GLA | the oak tree
11/4/2020 16:39 | Nothing to do with the share price but with social distancing and preferred routes round stores would it be difficult for Sainsburys {or other} to generate store specific lists of the order that you pass the various items as you follow the arrows. And then create a small web app in which you enter; store location, a list of what you want to buy, less specifically than on-line shopping, hit a button and your list is sorted to the order that you will encounter the items. To be printed or copied down. Less time in store, less changing direction, fewer close encounters with other shoppers ???? | colonel a
09/4/2020 11:37 | Queue twice round the car park at our local superstore. | tim 3
08/4/2020 16:37 | Yes but you have to reserve and pay online first though. | tim 3
08/4/2020 15:01 | Online Collection only | tardelli2
08/4/2020 15:01 | One other thing: If you gave me a choice of having the fuel or the drink sales from Sainsbury stores. I like most people would pick the drink sales! The margin is so much better. So yes petrol sales will be down but IMHO thats more than compensated for. | the oak tree
08/4/2020 14:55 | If Argos are inside / beside a sainsbury store then its open. If a standalone its closed. I've seen Q for Argos stores that are open. They keep the Q seperate between Sainsbury supermarket and Argos normally. Our update is at the end of this month so I can assure you they will know how they are doing re this virus . Whether they tell the market is another matter though. Tesco being the biggest by far will always be the one that takes the flake. Hopefully Sainsbury has a more balanced update that Tesco. In time though the figures will speak for themselves. GLA | the oak tree
08/4/2020 14:35 | Can one one please confirm that the in store Argos' are actually open as in my local Boots they have cordoned off and shut down the make-up and photographic printing areas and therefore Sainsbury's may have done the same with their in store Argos'. | loganair |
