From tomorrow, Wednesday 18th March, customers will be able to buy a maximum of three of any grocery product and a maximum of two on the most popular products including toilet paper, soap and UHT milk. We have enough food coming into the system, but are limiting sales so that it stays on shelves for longer and can be bought by a larger numbers of customers.

Got in here at £2.09 just in time before profits double with restaurants and eating out places all closing down.

Good move from them particularly the 3 product maximum across the board on grocery.

Off course you will get some that just buy in separate transactions but it will make it much harder.

Apparently people were coming in first thing and literally stripping the shelves of everything.

Good move for older people too.

These moves will work imo, they should have done it earlier though.

Have Sainsbury's put in place any "initiatives" to protect staff from infected customers

I see staff shortages soon

people supposed to stay at home for 14 days if they have a cough

government advice

we'll see

don't think they need it to be honest

Sainsburys is not like a small non-grocery retailer that is seeing no customers at the moment

Strange RNS from SBRY this morning

Somehow I don't think the business rates holiday will apply to a multi billion pound supermarket company like Sainsbury

Business Rates

J Sainsbury plc notes yesterday's statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in which it was stated that the government will be "giving all retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England a 100% business rates holiday for the next 12 months". We welcome the support for these businesses and we are awaiting further clarification on the details of this change. J Sainsbury plc paid UK business rates of GBP567m in the financial year to 9 March 2019, of which c.GBP500m related to stores.

Next step - ration books

To stop people coming back 10 minutes later and buying the same items again

Wouldn’t be surprised if the government told them to start rationing products.

Jeniferzz,

Thankyou, for the above.

I have given up with the supermarkets replying more, as I could be waiting far too long.

I have instead contacted a major union.

Maybe more folk should contact supermarkets, or others.

Thanks again.

You will be lucky to get toilet rolls at anytime here.

Same as spod and would add alcohol to that list with pubs shutting.

Was in a big Sainsburys this morning and shelves were literally emptying infront of your eyes.

Virtually no canned veg left or baked beans and other tinned stuff like Ravioli and spagetti

All bread gone too.

Urgent measures are needed now.
