Q3-2021 Trading Update

'Continued momentum, positive industry tailwinds, increasing confidence'

RPS, a leading multi-sector global professional services firm, provides the following trading update for the quarter ended 1 October 2021 ('Q3-2021' or the 'period').

Performance for the period was in line with the Board's expectations with Fee Revenue on an upward trajectory and margins improving. The trends in our markets and business performance that we signalled in the H1-2021 results have continued. Fee Revenue in Q3-2021 increased 13% on Q3-2020 at constant currency to GBP120.1 million (Q3-2020: GBP109.0 million, GBP106.6 million at constant currency). Year to date Fee Revenue is up 4% at constant currency at GBP353.6 million (2020: GBP341.5 million, GBP340.1 million at constant currency).

Those interested in the sector may have seen that Stantec recently acquired the US and APAC businesses of Cardno for 1.4 x sales this week. Lots of positive supporting commentary re: opportunities in the US and Australia arising from Govt spending / infra bill etc and easing lockdown.

Yes, hard to believe that only 18 months ago you could pick these up for 30p. It certainly transformed my average price having also bought a lot higher. Q3 trading update in the next couple of weeks.

All seems pretty much inline. Hopefully steady progress from here. My RPS friend says he's less busy than before, but they have more people. But after I paid up on my promise I haven't really asked him about it other than as a casual "hows work" sort of question.

Hmm. This is all suddenly a bit parabolic though.

Could be a sudden rerating as bigger investors wake up to RPS - I saw Investec do this recently - in which case it's a 'sticky' price rise.

Or it could be some short term frothy speculation and we'll hit the top of the trend channel (between here and ~125p) and drop back fast.

Not sure whether to bail out if it gets to about 125p and hope for a lower re-entry price or just hold...

Yes the 102-106p level was likely to cause some resistance to the rerating so hopefully we can now move up to 120-130p with ease as trading further improves although travel restrictions will still be causing some headaches. Worth a look at 20 year chart for valuation context.
