I have been saying that for a while. Parcel force is run as a separate business and could easily be detached.

Or they might have decided that a parcel carrier in a crowded market lumbered with a heavy cash drain mail liability is not a good bet? Now if RMG were to spin off Parcel Force as a separate entity there might be some legs in it. Just hinting at it would transform the share price

Fund manager are judge by the performance of their portfolio. If their portfolio is down for more then 1 year they can loose their jobs. Only clever man like Warren Buffet never loose his job. This is why he buys more and this is why he is the biggest investor in history. That is my personal opinion. So I don't believe much in fund managers

They are selling because they are stupid. The proof being that they bought at a much higher price. Or perhaps the fund they are selling from only hold FTSE 100 companies.

After the dividend cut the yield at the current price is 7.5%. I like the parcel box idea I think it gives them the edge. And anyone surprised by letter volumes shrinking must have slept the past 20 years.

I've always wondered why they changed from low maintenance cheap to run bikes to brand new vans that they park wherever they like, running cars cost an absolute fortune it's a huge overhead. Obviously the rounds have got more weight in them with small parcels but you can get trailer that you bolt onto the bicycle. Cut into some fat there as some of these depot points are only 1 mile from their rounds but they still drive around in a new van.

meijiman, I suspect his would-be chancellor has! RMG certainly has a traditional type of trades union culture in the depots I have seen, and the further North one goes so the more entrenched it is. But to be fair in some places you really do need something to push back against oppressive managers. As a private contractor with financial resources I have on several times flatly refused to do things and walked away, the look on their faces is worth it. Next thing of course they modify their demands, I raise my price and the job gets done.

One thing I notice when in a heavily unionised industrial place, is that the Shop Steward will have a nice cosy office, often with a tv and tea/coffee making facilities. If you ask around you also find that they only work 9 to 5 but collect full shift allowance in places that work shifts. They are pampered, and much back stabbing effort goes into hanging onto their soft berth. I have always seen it as a good reason not to vote Labour. I have wondered if George Orwell ever found himself in contact with these types before he wrote Animal Farm. Also quite interesting that schools don't seem to have had Animal Farm on their reading lists for the past 40 odd years. When I mention the book to people under 45 they look at me blankly.

the unions will mean sweet FA very soon

AI will see to that

Union power to drain away from Labor like a flat battery

Would the union allow such a move?
I doubt it? Otherwise strikes will entail.
Remember its the unions filling labours coffers!

encarter "Labour have already stated that they will issue bonds to cover renationalisation. They will be at the original issue price of £3.30"

Issue Bonds? The Gilt/Bond market will have already collapsed. lol

But yes they made a huge issue of how RMG was given away to the conservative friends of the city.
