The Bank of England has voted 8-1 to keep interest rates on hold at 0.5%.

The bank also lowered its estimate for the UK's economic growth in the third quarter of this year from 0.7% down to 0.6%.

For the second month, Ian McCafferty was the only one of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) members to vote for an increase in rates.

Policy makers also said that the risks from the slowing Chinese economy had increased since August.

According to Bloomberg only 28% of US economists polled think the Fed will raise rates next week. The tree shake in NY last night was doubtless to ensure that the majority view prevails.Needless to say that Asia fell too, along with commodities.

The spin in NY, having nothing else to blame, is s fear that the US jobs growth will lead to a rate rise next week.

I can see that you would; In response to beg's point, the US IB own London markets in just the same way that they own US markets.Their major IB have large scale operations in Canary Wharf and these banks are now the dominant players in the Global commodity and equity markets.

I was just an article about Ryanair.Currently it has risen 87% over the last 12 months. It carries more passengers than Easyjet and Air Berlin combined and it is now the 5th most valuable listed airline.Love it if hate it, there is no doubting that it has made many a lot of money.

Some Boeing 777 'Seabird Heavies' (the call sign of British Airways large airliners), are kitted with Rolls Royce engines some with US General Electric engines. This was a GE engine which self destructed.
