Correct and the French State already own 8 nuclear power stations in the UK with another one on the way.

French nuclear stations on the Northern coast of France are as big risk to the UK as France.

The hypocrisy amazes me! So it's OK to use state owned EDF French nuclear power in the grid? EDF has 56 nuclear stations and six more on the way with proposals of a further eight.

buywell3: I'm guessing you're the EMEA regional sales director for Tesla Powerwall.

The above link will show that prices for such items range from £4k upwards. Hard to determine what would be required for a normal household - in winter, when demand would be high and periods of darkness long.

Battery longevity is debatable, mainly because the product has only been around for 6-7 years. My guess, based upon the suggested 20years in the 'blurb' is about 10.

Whilst the concept is not outlandish the actuality of expecting many, many houses to install this kit at the householder's expense is what will kill it off. Off-grid, backwoods cabins in the Smokey Mountains would be ideal. A whole estate full of such kit in suburban England would cause issues for the local sub-station when too much power was being generated and sent back into the grid.

Also, if all these Powerwalls were interconnected as would be the presumed requirement if they are feeding spare energy back into the local grid, how would payment for such be monitored easily and accurately.

Our current energy companies make frequent errors with the relatively simple task of charging for energy that passes in just one direction, through a simple to read meter.

I'm not convinced buywell3.

Nuclear (SMR's) have their issues granted, but their build costs and timescales are far better than large, traditional nuclear plants. Given we have contaminated grounds at our current traditional nuclear sites we shoudl simply start to install SMR's at these same sites. It matters little if a 'cluster' of 5-8 SMR's occupy a space within a sqaure mile of each other. The power connections exist, the security exists and there's little prospect of planning disruption.
