Yes gb, it hadn't gone unnoticed with myself either , fingers crossed for a good start next week ! I think Europe might be on a buying spree soon on the defence front , which should show well in the future share price for Rolls |
In NY yesterday, RR traded up after the LSE Close, at $9.56 =£7.60p |
I have listen to the argument about BB's on numerous threads. It seems to depend on many things; are the shares getting canceled, is it a sizable chunk etc. When the share price doesn't move it seems like a bad idea but it still could argued that the share price would have been worse without the BB. LLOY shares have made good gains recently and they have had a sizable BB program. But of course they may not be related. Are buy backs taxed like profit? If a company pays dividends, that is taxed as it comes out of profit. I am not an accountant, but if shares are treated as assets, the company might not be paying HMRC on the value as it is an asset. Maybe this is a benefit that defers tax payments, whilst gaining value if it rises. |
Cevod and thegrafter: appreciate your views. We ALL have a view.
Tufan's is the more important and he does seem to be doing a good job and for that I am thankful.
Oh, and for the bourbon 🤣👍 |
MC, I am having a little weekend welcomer myself ;) Cheers to a good week ! |
Bank of America article re upgrade : |
As this price the BB will barely make a dent to the number of share in issue (8.50bn). |
MCunliffe1 I respect your view on this issue and normally agree with your posts, but Apple have been engaged in a very lucrative buyback gir a few years now. Buffet believes in share buybacks if the share price in his opinion is greatly undervalued. Today's updates JPMORGAN, Bank of America would indicate that to be the case. As would this,

Evening thegrafter:
I have a real dislike of BB's. One of the issues somewhat overlooked but one that worries me is the reduction of the number of shares issued as a by-product of the BB. This makes it easier for a disruptive large investor to get a grip on the company, possibly even to make a bid.
I appreciate RR has a 'golden share' held by the UK government so a takeover may not be on the cards, but I really do fail to understand why spending cash to buy back one's own shares benefits anybody other than possibly the directors who's bonus system is related to EPS.
I'll keep quiet now on this thread in respect of the BB as the subject has been debated to death on numerous other threads. But, I greatly appreciate your polite and sensible view expressed in #4274. In fact, all your posts are sensible.
I'll try to keep mine likewise going forward.
And......it's Bourbon and Dry Ginger time. Yipee! |
Hi Guys, I rarely post on here but apparently the stock close price with IG was +12.6 but from II it was +21.6, please explain as to why this happens ?
Be gentle guys LOL |
MC , I don’t see an issue with the share buy back as the purchase price say 730-760 because within 2 years this share could be trading between 1300-20000 level or possibly more , so in my view a shrewd move for the company, but I agree it’s at the cost of the divi , but as a long term holder and will continue to be , I am certainly very very happy with my investment so far and would rather have a stronger company going forward rather than a few extra pounds in the divi . |
"Nice to see directors buying at this level." - agreed sdt.
Especially as they'll soon be buying at a higher level using OUR money instead of their own. |
Nice to see directors buying at this level.
Wondering if now we're likely to see a daily RNS with a purchase and deletion statement..... |
BA owner IAG to give £830M back to shareholders as profits hit record high |

BOFA RAISES ROLLS-ROYCE PRICE TARGET TO 1150 (830) PENCE - 'BUY' |
I see a little 55k buy by one of the non executive directors , always welcome ! |
TBF this turn around has been astonishing. Congrats to all that invested in the covid lows and even if you picked these up at less than a fiver, still got a chance of doubling your money in the next few years. This is my 4th multi bagger in 20 years of investing, they are hard to come by especially in such a short term and not having to go on an emotional rollers coaster to get there. |
Oddo BHF raises Rolls-Royce price target to 880 pence - 'outperform' |
Cheers bigdave ! You are always first to post on the upgrades ;-) |
JPMORGAN RAISES ROLLS-ROYCE PRICE TARGET TO 900 (655) PENCE - 'OVERWEIGHT' |
Below, are snippets from the D Telegraph today. Reaching targets two years early. V Impressive. and “These targets are a milestone, not a destination, and we see strong growth prospects beyond the mid-term.
”Tufan Erginbilgic on Thursday said the business was moving “with pace and intensity” as he stormed past a milestone previously pegged for 2027. Tufan Erginbilgic – dubbed “Turbo” in City circles said– Rolls Royce is also becoming leaner and more profitable as he takes a red pen to spending with “zero budgeting” techniques.
On Thursday, Rolls reported underlying profits of £2.5bn for 2024, up from £1.8bn a year earlier, as well as an increase in margins from 5.1pc to 13.8pc. Both achievements were originally set out as “mid-term̶1; targets meant to be achieved in two years’ time. The chief executive immediately upgraded the company’s mid-term targets to between £3.6bn and £3.9bn of underlying profits and even higher margins. The big improvement was driven by Rolls’s civil aerospace business, which saw profits leap 80pc higher to £1.5bn.
Flying hours – a vital measure since Rolls only makes money when its engines are being used – rose 14pc to 18.8m hours. But he added: “These targets are a milestone, not a destination, and we see strong growth prospects beyond the mid-term.” |
