RR made a big mistake with SMR design based upon submarine nuclear reactor designs.

SMRs fine detail blueprints would have to be wholly public

The existing nuclear sites currently being decommissioned have grid connections in place - unless some idiot has severed such already. The cost to clean these sites and return them to full use is enormous. Simply reuse that contaminated land for the siting of the first batches of SMR's.

This link: provides the list of the companies on the government's shortlist.

Gwen Parry-Jones, CEO of Great British Nuclear, states in the report that the priority is to obtain reliable and sustainable power to the grid - early.

It continues to explain that next Spring (2024) the successful companies will be announced and in summer of 2024 contracts will be awarded.

He states that a Final INvestment Decision will be made in ........ 2029

This inordinate delay between summer 2024 and the year 2029 is not explained and in relationship to the stated aim:

"to obtain reliable and sustainable power to the grid - early"

it seems bizarre.

I've looked at the European regulatory data:

and see that many of the projects being part-funded in their evaluation by the EU are not set to be completed until Sept 2026. Maybe the delay by the UK govt. is designed to allow these designs (none British) to be assessed alongside the six shortlisted so far.
