05/1/2017 19:22 | cyberbub acouple of thing you may have overlooked, the price of electric in 25 years time lets say 30p a unit and the battery will have a resiudual value of about 1/3rd for the vanadium electrolyte.... I had erstimated about £70,000.....sa | dlg3
05/1/2017 18:59 | Pierre, I was referring to the lithium ion batteries in cars like a Nissan Leaf, hence my reference to that model and the words "electric cars". Yes an old-style lead-acid battery for use only for the starter motor and powering the car's systems when the engine is off, holds about 1kWh. 'Traction' batteries in modern electric cars hold about 30 kWh. Just right for a RedT 5-40 (40kWh energy storage) domestic-scale unit connected to a decent sized set of domestic solar panels in a sunny country, amongst the many where Jabil has a factory :-) Charge up the RedT battery on free sunlight during the day, come back from work in your electric car at 6pm, plug it in and it'll be charged by the morning!.. and there would still be enough energy left in the RedT battery (10 kWh approx) to have powered your home that evening... I don't think it's a coincidence that the lifespan of the RedT batteries more or less matches the lifespan of typical solar panels. So if a solar panel array and RedT battery last 25 years and deliver (in ideal circumstances) 40kWh per day which is all used for home power or EV car charging, that would be 25 X 365 X 40 = 365,000 kWh. At 12p per kWh (UK retail prices.. likely to rise over time) that would be £44,000 of free energy. Add in the (reducing) feed-in tariffs and the income will be probably £50K +. Going completely off-grid would probably yield even greater savings due to removal of 'daily standing charges' or similar. On the downside, there may be some maintenance costs, but solar panels and vanadium batteries should need very little over 25 years. I suspect that a RedT 5-40 and a solar panel array together will not cost more than £20K, so a very nice profit over its lifetime! *Plus* the high reliability will mean not being subject to power outages or flaky power grids which still exist in many countries. *Plus* a lot of early adopters will be doing it for the green kudos rather than savings. Now do people see the domestic opportunities for the smaller-end units?? Even the larger units could be used for blocks of flats which have covered their roofs with solar panels, or other groups of dwellings. | cyberbub

05/1/2017 18:23 | E.ON, the German utility giant with 61 GW of generation assets, has announced plans to split its business in two. The portion that will focus on distribution networks and renewables will retain the name "E.ON," while the currently unnamed company will include conventional generation, exploration and production, and energy trading businesses. This new E.ON will focus on three core divisions, namely renewables, distribution, and "customer solutions" spread across Germany, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Sweden, among others. E.ON expects to complete this reorganization by the second half of 2016, and it has already begun to sell off conventional assets, as it has in selling its businesses in Spain and Portugal to Macquarie for $3 billion. Along the same lines, E.ON is also "evaluating the sale of our activities in Italy and will conduct a strategic review of our exploration and production business in the North Sea." | dlg3

05/1/2017 17:19 | It's a 6 ft container, which is really about the same size as the old coal bunkers newer houses back in the 80's came with. Not outside the realms of possibility but I doubt it is something that will be sold in Curry's today, but who knows when they have got the size down with advancements as we progress through the Generation of units, 4,5, 6 etc etc. | dogrunner11
05/1/2017 17:16 | redT 5-20 energy storage machine The smallest machine in the redT energy product range, the redT 5-20 is ideal for use in large domestic or small commercial applications such as a farmhouses, commercial buildings or telecom infrastructure hxxp://www.redtenerg Larger property really Pierre, although I would imagine those Tesla powerwalls are only being installed in larger properties, my mate has one and that's a big 5 bed with a couple acres of land, not your usual house. Although even he will admit it was a purchase to show off to his mates rather then something he needed. Those Tesla products are quite noisy, bit like a fridge humming away, not something you want in your house, I hear the newer ones are quite a bit larger. | dogrunner11
