Captain,

Know what you mean about rusky oilers, I had a few grand in Timan. Fab licences, giant potential onshore and two offshore blocks in the Caspian sea! If they can ever get there assets back then maybe a takout will put shareholders out of their misery. Its good to see OP nice and high with the second Nth Chapman well coming-up, should fill our coffers nicely. Even if the reserve report is slow, as long as it delivers the numbers we are hoping for then it'll have been worth the wait. In regards to Puntland, we can't do anything but wait for AOI to make a move. What we do know is that they have a clear intention of drilling atleast one well this year in the same basin AGIP made a discovery. I doubt after their investment, they would risk losing the licences. RRL share price movement hasn't been great but it seems there is a ready supply of shares, is this due to disgruntled Ozzy investors bailing or simply due to the large number in issue? If the latter, perhaps it would be a good idea to undertake a consolidation.

Hope,

Not looked that closely at the moment. I'm not totally against investing in Russian or FSU oiliers just not my favs due to ownership issues such as has happened with Sibir, UEN, VOG, Regal, and I think one as called Cardinal and one that seems to be attracting attention even though its lost its block (CSH) it was a momentum play recently (didn't touch it as it seems to have little in the way of assets). That growing list is a reason that I tend to avoid these types of companies. But sure I wouldn't doubt that if you're nimble there is money to be made alright. Just haven't looked that closely to those that currently fit into that geographic area for the reason listed above. UEN has has a good run recently as has PTR and I wouldn't rule out a future investment at some time.

O/T

Pttington,

Well spotted one of my rare O/T posts. I didn't realise that you held there as I've never seen you post. Well done I'm sure you've done well from them especially yesterday with the news. Well I like a diversified portfolio with buying companies for different reasons, the one you are referring to I bought due to its P2 (a high % chance of recovering that amount of oil from their fields). Sure ESP's increase the cost of production a little but with oil in the $86/bbl range did you see their netbacks for 2008? I always check the balance sheet, the next few developmental wells are on producing fields wouldn't you agree? Sure not all appraisals or developmental wells are as successful as the discovery, there is a risk in every O&G investment including this one. that's why I continously recommend a diversified portfolio to all, I've even expanded recently to 1 cement and 1 gold producer too.

Personally I wouldn't compare the two directly as they are two very different companies. I put the most of my cash into producers and I value oil stocks mainly on P2 but also their production and how easily they can develop that production. Range has the advantage that it can be held in an ISA and is undervalued on the back of Smith with the other larger targets going ahead. The other in question has 100% of its licence areas and any success would rapidly boost its production from any one of the 13 developmental wells planned. I do have a diversified portfolio of over 10 stocks most of my cash being invested in North Sea producers.

Captain,
Re that bit of ramping elsewhere of your latest foray.
And with respect as many here are there.
After consolidating 4 a week, ish with the drill result
Expected soon, if say, it's not as good as here,
Do U not expect a bit of a pull back. ?
Is not the oil a bit heavy/thick needing pumps
Water content Etc
RE the EEN reference, Is it in the middle of
Nowhere, is the oil/tar trucked away
IS RRL not the better investment?
Considering the second well. ETC.

So much M&A potential with resource stocks over the coming years especially with the ever demanding need from the east. Just hope the oil price doesn't get too far ahead of itself and start stemming any recovery.

pcolman1,

not really sure that most of mine are isable, but will give you my main stuff, some interesting, some not. GCM, BAO, CZA, AFNR, GKP, URU, RENE.

From my experience, its only really worth bothering with resource stocks so it seems, but if i had to give you any single tip from that lot it would be without a doubt BAO. The others are good but are at quite advanced prices, BAO will really take off at some point in near future.
