'Traders keep bets on two Fed rate hikes in 2017'

U.S. short-term interest rate futures rose slightly on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve released minutes from its December policy-setting meeting, but not enough to suggest altered expectations for the U.S. central bank's rate hike path this year.

Traders continued to price in two rate hikes this year, and some chance of a third, based on the price of fed funds futures contracts traded at CME Group's Chicago Board of Trade.

WASHINGTON (Alliance News) - Gold futures continued to rise Wednesday morning amid speculation the Federal Reserve will not raise interest rates three times in 2017.

Minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee's Dec. 13-14 meeting are due at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.

At the meeting, the central bank lifted interest rates and hinted at more hikes in 2017 than analysts had forecast.

However, recent economic data has been generated concerns about a winter economic lull for a third year in a row. The Fed minutes may provide clues about the criteria for further rate hikes.

Could easily pierce £65.50 at some stage today. Gold already up $5 to $1162 and holding very well.

RRS undervalued in any case.

Thanks blueball. Gold is currently $1159 spot, about $5 off the day's high, so if it's above $1160 or thereabouts in the morning, we may see £65 at some stage.
