Estimated MSAR® and bioMSAR™ savings are significant. The average MSAR® saving since 2020 is 29% when compared to HFO, and the average bioMSAR saving since 2020 is 19% when compared to biofuel (HFO+HVOI). The value of the savings generated would be shared between the producer, customer and Quadrise. (Reference: 2021 AGM)

bioMSAR™ is being developed as a complementary fuel alternative to MSAR®, not as a replacement. bioMSAR™ is fully compatible and interchangeable with MSAR®, with both fuels using the same technology and fuel handling systems. The choice by the customer of which fuel to use will be determined by their own priorities, with bioMSAR™ offering a lower carbon solution to MSAR® as decarbonisation efforts intensify.

Quadrise is in the development stages of creating our first zero-carbon biofuel, bioMSAR™ Zero. bioMSAR™ Zero will replace the heavy residue component of MSAR® and bioMSAR™ with a fully renewable fuel source, whilst delivering the same substantial benefits to engine efficiency and emissions. Our goal is to deliver a commercially competitive Net-Zero emulsion fuel by 2030.

MSAR® is a low viscosity oil-in-water emulsified synthetic HFO. It is manufactured using proprietary technology to mix heavy residual oils with small amounts of specialist chemicals and water to a bespoke formulation. The resulting emulsion contains approximately 30% water and less than 1% chemicals. The emulsion is a low viscosity liquid at room temperature, which makes it easier to handle and reduces the heating costs for storing, transportation and use in comparison to HFOs.

In addition, the hydrocarbon droplets are pre-atomised within the emulsion and are significantly smaller than the droplets formed from atomising HFO; this means that when used MSAR® burns almost completely, leaving virtually no particulate carbon in the exhaust and making it more environmentally friendly.

Quadrise is the licensor of MSAR® technology and offers fully integrated solutions for oil refiners and end users.
