How The IEA Underestimates The Solar Industry

The International Energy Agency (IEA) consistently entertains much too pessimistic assumptions about the growth potential and cost development of solar power, writes Terje Osmundsen, Senior Vice President of the Norwegian-based international solar power company Scatec Solar. According to Osmundsen, the cost assumptions used by the IEA are 100% higher than even current market prices. He notes that as a result of the IEA's misleading information, policymakers are under the false impression that the spread of solar power will require huge subsidies. He calls on the IEA to get together with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to conduct a joint study on the real economics of solar power.

The supply of wafers has been limited in 2014 so far, and will remain this way for the rest of the year due to the increasing demand by solar manufacturers. The demand is projected to be 50 GW for 2014, while the projected supply is about 45 GW.

The industry's three largest silicon wafer producers are GCL-Poly (3800.HK), LDK Solar (LDK), and ReneSola (SOL).

£5 would give a market cap of about a billion ish, todays market cap is 45million ish, currently and for the foreseeable its not unrealistic to hope for a market cap of 100 million, an infinitely more realistic target but still more than a double from here, a billion market cap is just daft.

Papy02,

I have been taking too much on face value from certain posts on this BB, namely that the 2008 £5.20 was the pre consolidation (unadjusted) peak.

Now I can see from your link that it was in fact ~£2, the ADVFN chart now makes perfect sense.

Thank you.

"Thaaarg" *hi* ;-)

The historical price-points I have are:

26 Nov 13 close (just before went ex for the return-of-funds): mid price 14.75p
which corrected for the 13 to 5 consolidation is 38.35p

21 Oct 13 I bought at 12p (= 31.2p consolidation-corrected)

13 Dec 2012 I bought at 9.25p (= 24.05 consolidation-corrected)

27 Nov 2012 I bought at 9.24p (= 24.02 consolidation-corrected)

These consolidation-corrected prices all tally with the ADVFN chart and not at all with the iii one.

The 2008 peak was before my time in PVCS. But the data points I do have all show ADVFN chart to be correct and iii incorrect.

If you want to focus on 2008, this link:

seems to indicate the 2008 peak was around/under the 200p level, which consolidation-corrected is around/under 520p. So again the ADVFN chart looks correct, and iii not.
