Investors losing money is not a reason to legislate. We don't need protecting from ourselves. We do need protecting from unscrupulous companies

A bit more than pen pushers chaps....this was your regulator speaking and they report that during the period under observation 76% of retail punters lost money with CFDs

It's what bureaucrats do. They generate work for themselves by citing concerns allowing them a pretext to call for more funding which allows them an opportunity to increase their remuneration and performance bonuses. I believe they call it parasitism.

Trading at just 9x prospective earnings...seems regulatory concerns are already well discounted in the price. I also feel that CFD leverage limits will be probably set at 50x rather than EASMA recommendation of between 5 and 30x.Should that come to pass the current share price will be history imo.

edit.Even 30x will be pretty positive imo

Thanks PL, insightful. Given those figures, Q4 should be amazing especially as their update mentions record revenues and profits (have been able to monetize crypto). I would expect a nice pop once Q4 is released unless the market catches on beforehand with which Plus it rarely does

* error in the early post. Figures 318,1000 active customers not 18,000.

Plus500 have published on the website that there were 318,000 active customers for 2017.

From this figure you can deduce:

Active customers in 2017 at 318,000 (29,481 active customers higher than Barenberg forecast of 288,519). New customers 2017 at 246.000.

Therefore, customers carried over from 2016 to 2017 at72,000 (2016: 51,524). A 40% increase year on year.

Further, you can deduce that 8,313 existing customers prior to 2017 were reactivated in Q4 who had not previously traded in 2017.

Same here. Bought one lot at 440 and sold at 1200 today. Bought another at 870 and sold yesterday at 1070. Small holdings but happy with gains and will look to rebuy again if share price retraces.

Also sold this morning at around 1100 - of course it then shot up to 1200 but took some good profits so can't complain. Hopefully will see better entry point later on

Looks like you picked a good time, I sold mine at 1000 a little while ago, having bought around 450 I was happy with that. Want to see what regulations might affect PLUS, I doubt any will cause major issues but that doesn't mean it won't affect share price and it could be a great time for re entry.

Personally I just sold most of my holding... enough of a rise for now and I've banked good profits. Will buy again if it approaches £10.

I am really pleased for PLUS management. They took so much sh*t from shorters and just knuckled down and sorted the back office shortcomings out, as well as preparing for reg. change. This prepared the way for managing the unexpected gift of the new Tulips (Bitcoin et al). We know what happened to Tulips, and PLUS will just benefit even more.

A charge to £15 is more than likely and still cheap on the current upgrade of customer base + CFD on Crypto.

My only worry with Plus upto now was how they would handle the one way crypto rise and apparently they have done that exceedingly well. Kudos to them. Added to position yesterday

It's a big credit to Plus management that they can take on and service that huge volume of new customers in such a short time. Big applause. Just imagine Barclays trying that...!!!!

Thanks planelondon - Plus500 feeds on volatility and I have been observing bitcoin's extraordinary volatility over the last month and hunching that Plus500 would be benefiting. Not to mention the other cryptos. too!

Metis20, and there was also this from Justin Bates of Liberum:

"The increase in new customer additions was “very unexpected”, and demonstrates how strongly correlated the online trading business is to volatility in underlying markets, according to Justin Bates, an analyst at Liberum Capital who has a buy rating on the stock."

"Bates expects Plus500 to further monetise cryptocurrency traffic this year by cross-selling newly acquired customers other products. He predicts the company will add a further 200,000 customers in both 2018 and 2019, having previously expected it to add just 100,000 in each year."
