14/10/2021 17:06 | Life expectancy fell slightly over the last year because of covid which may be a positive for annuity providers. Whether it is a trend is yet to be seen. | alter ego
14/10/2021 16:20 | And the growth in pension risk transfer on higher rates could be exponential for a few years; thus it's great that PHNX has uped its ability to price across most of the pension risk transfer market Must check again the relative valuations of UK relative to US life companies - last I looked their was a big discount and all do the big PE houses want to own life companies now | williamcooper104
14/10/2021 16:17 | Generally yes higher rates all other things being equal should be positive The biggest sensitivity to their capital position was to longtivity - but what they don't model is how that risk is lessened if rates are higher - eg if you write an annuity at 3 percent and the annuity holder lives 20 years longer than expected then you've to reinvest for another 20 years; if you are reinvesting at 1 percent then there's a big problem; if you are reinvesting at 5 percent then there's no problem Also higher rates reduces the cost of corporates transferring their pension schemes to insurers, so is likely to see more growth in earnings from pension risk transfer | williamcooper104

14/10/2021 10:43 | A glance at, say, the five year chart shows this is actually around the middle of its normal range. Year high was 824p. Plus with inflation and general market concerns there will be a flight to relative safety and the excellent yield here. | bluemango
14/10/2021 09:56 | Cheap as chips | rogerbridge
14/10/2021 09:54 | Rising interest rates? I thought rising inflation and interest rates meant less spare capital had to be held against future liabilities so that unlocks more cash. I could be wrong. I usually get lost in complexity when I try to understand it. | aleman
14/10/2021 09:48 | Anybody any idea why we’re suddenly going up sharply here, I’ve not seen anything to justify it, or is it just that PHNX is very cheap? | warranty
