Maybe a message to DH would shed some light as to no mention of Petrel bidding for the Merjan block ...or anything else for that matter

I THINK POST 21993 has the answer. Considering all the Geological Work/Seismic soundings that the Chinese will need, a JV with Pet makes an awful lot of sense from every angle. Possibly that JV swung everything in Chinese favour.

F31 why are you surprised? In fact why is anyone surprised? The RNSs have been very clear, a PROPOSAL has been put forward not a bid. Granted there is plenty of “if’s, buts and he said she said”, but the company has been clear with the Market. Oddly most have just ignored market information through official channels and are now surprised that a bid wasn’t submitted. IMO it’s been well
Played by those pro traders on the back
Of a few loose rumours and reading into things that have never been made official, with certain inside fractions using this to exit last week leaving many (like me too!) to hold the baby

F31, Could they be part of a JV led by ZPEC?

Looks like Hammerr is correct and PET had not even put in a bid for Merjan ??

"Middle Euphrates fields in central Iraq received one bid from China’s ZPEC. It offered 11.67 per cent share of net profit, which was higher than the 9.35 per cent share the oil ministry was willing to pay. Afterward, the company accepted the 9.35 per cent share offered by the ministry"

It does look as though Merjan has gone to ZPEC. Interesting note that it was the only bid bearing in mind previous discussions that PET had made the only bid.

So much for ‘they want partners not bosses’. Let’s see if the block 6 opportunity comes through but I do begin to think that this has been just a dialogue of hot air from DH and crew….

The chinese, as well as undercutting on price, wont use local people as they always ship in their own. You see it everywhere they operate globally
