Thanks for posting. Yes, it proves that they got it right in 2008, but then a tad wrong in 2009. Being 45% cash in Feb 2009 was a poor call. Feb and March 2009 was a once in a decade opportunity and they should have been more aggressive. Easy to say. When I look at my own portfolio, some of my equity buys in early 2009 (of investment trusts like Scottish Mortgage and Rights and Issues, were fantastic entry points.

Their results to 30/04/09:

An interesting table showing their exposure to gold and equities. Just looking at the table, they seem to have called it right. May 2009 was the bottom, wasn't it?

From memory I think they called the bottom in the summer of 2008, invested more in equities, and got burned so they went back to being full-time bearish.

Yes, a very good trust indeed. I'm 25% cash, but they are 65% or so. Maybe a good strategy is to be c50% their strategy, as I do think they have been overly cautious at times. I must admit to getting a bit depressed at their never ending doom and gloom, but I'm sure they will be proved correct in the end!

I totally agree with them that we are currently peak cycle and so investors need to be very cautious. I'm continuing to clean-up my portfolio, so its as well positioned as possible, without going anywhere near as far as Personal Assets trust (who have missed out on 10 years of return). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Personal Assets Trust were a big equity investor in 2008/09, so sometimes i'm concerned as to whether they are just way too cautious.

I was encouraged into this four years ago (and to sell Alliance Trust) - excellent advice!

Citywire has some ITs for a "leave" vote - PNL, CMHY, PIN included.

Is US inflation rising? Some commentators think so, and think the FED really will be back on the rate hiking path soon.

PNL has over 20% of its assets in TIPS and UK Linkers, another 10% in bullion.

Same old doom and gloom from the fact sheet. Their newsletters are really depressing. I don't disagree with what they say, but not always convinced they buy when the time is really right....2009 was an obvious example.

Gold looking very perky, PNL have 10% of the fund in gold bullion.

If you could buy here at around 335 that looks like a decent entry
point, if PNL traded that low again.

Most of their equity exposure is US and Friday saw many hefty % gains.
PM, KO, MSFT, BATS and Nestle are among their top holdings- equity exposure is approx 43-44% of the fund.

elmfield, judging by the amounts of shares bought by PNL directors
recently they are considerably richer!.

Interesting week for markets, the mining sector sell of this afternoon
may suggest this bounce is temporary, the fascinating aspect to markets
is that you never quite know and are constantly surprised, well that is the case with me.
