25/6/2019 18:28 | topvest - A slightly different take but same result - Possibly a man who thinks he can walk on water because of his wide experience in the fast food business (however he DID NOT found Pizza Express) - That was Peter Boizot whom I knew well and was on his attendee list for many of his London openings - Now there was a man who knew the hospitality business very well and was also profitable. Possibly LJ believing his own hype took his eye of the detail - skated too fast on thin ice which being supported by nothing but bubbles cracked and dropped him in the effluent!! Result reputation ruined and red flags against any future entrepreneurial activity PS TV - You have so far accumulated 3 red ticks - U must be annoying the LJ fan club by rubbing theri noses in it - well done. | pugugly
25/6/2019 18:06 | Do you have that book on corporate fraud by Luke JR Johnson | onjohn
25/6/2019 17:58 | Agreed on giving LJ a wide birth. He stitched me and others up on Signature Restaurants. I think he is in category 2: reputation seriously damaged, but not a fraudster. | topvest
25/6/2019 06:28 | has luke johnson read that book about fraud by.....errrr luke johnson | millennial
25/6/2019 03:16 | G'day, Must admit bbms often gets it right. And having had a rather dodgy experience with Belgo (LJ) some years ago, I would recom that all investor agencies, newspapers etc, give LJ a very wide birth. If innocent (he has not been arrested, maybe why he jumped rather than fell out of the tree), but his innocence points towards his failure to get on the restaurant circuit for fame, he failed miserably, twice now. Big talk, little substance! Lots of us made mega bucks on totcom, we don't try to build a reputation, just crack on with our investments. Not Luke, he needs attention, not getting it. | dudishes
24/6/2019 23:22 | hpcg They were clearly more honest 30 years ago. Look at the number of companies that go bust now because of frauds. Auditors used to audit. There was a chance of getting caught and sent to prison - everyone now knows that is very unlikely. Banks behaved like banks - they did due diligence. I remember Polly Peck - because it was unusual. About 50% of all companies that ever listed on AIM could now meet that definition. | augustusgloop
24/6/2019 21:40 | I can't see any way LJ did not know what was going on. | bbmsionlypostafter
24/6/2019 21:33 | yopvest, common sense to cross check the O/D's to the accounts. From memory the bank was HSBC which is/was used by L.J. much. Why did the manager not ask/tell him (l.J.) your PLc wonder company has overdrafts? It all looks so obvious NOW. | konradpuss
24/6/2019 21:15 | So how true was the IPO story then?... | diku
24/6/2019 21:07 | Yes, agreed. They all missed it. To have twice the operating margins of Pret, Costa Coffee and Starbucks in the UK was a plainly unbelievable stat. (for selling cakes and a pot of tea) that everyone that was in category 2 and 3, including LJ should have questioned. If something doesn't quite feel right, it probably isn't! Take the bank for example. They were just as negligent for not spotting the fact that their overdrafts were not disclosed in a publicly listed company. Surely, common sense would suggest that a bank reads the annual report of its borrowers...obviousl | topvest
24/6/2019 21:05 | Johnson is very vain from memory when I came across him. He will rise again me thinks. The way he is opening Gail's outlets he will be floating that company soon - I think not! | konradpuss
24/6/2019 20:50 | "It was obvious" - but no-one whatsoever, in the bristling expansive hedge fund community scouring for short sales, took any disclosed position! | edmondj
24/6/2019 20:42 | Loser Luke Johnson deleting any negative entries on his Wikipedia page Just like loser boris Johnson neither can handle the heat | onjohn
24/6/2019 18:53 | Think some of the posts are excessive here, probably from those that lost money. In my opinion there are 3 categories of party involved here. 1. The fraudsters who knowingly manipulated an intricate and well orchestrated fraud. The FD and others. 2. The victims, that will suffer some element of blame for not spotting the fraud, when maybe they should have. Luke Johnson, the NEDs, the auditor, the bank and the NOMAD. 3. The victims, that have suffered a loss in their investment but should have spotted that the financials didn’t maybe stack up, given it was obvious. Classes 2 and 3 are clearly negligent, but not fraudulent. Class 1 need to be sentenced. Class 2 have already ruined their careers and reputation. Class 3 have learnt a lesson. | topvest
24/6/2019 11:04 | bbm is one of the biggest trolls around, click on his name and read his posts, the saddo is sick imo. | 12bn
