Large chunks of ice float offshore Severny Island in the Russian Arctic. Almost half of the 18,882-square-mile (48,904-sq-km) island is covered by the Severny Island ice cap, which — if considered part of Europe — is the largest glacier by area on the continent. The ice cap spans 7,900 square miles (20,500 sq km), making it about the same size as the entire country of Wales.





Manhattan, seen at center, is the most densely populated borough in New York City and is home to roughly 1.6 million people. With a land area of roughly 23 square miles (59 square kilometers) and about 1.6 million residents, there are approximately 72,000 people here for every square mile.

Istanbul Airport is the main international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. It opened in fall of 2018 and took over all commercial passenger flights from Istanbul Atatürk Airport, which was not large enough to handle increasing passenger traffic. The airport’s main terminal, seen in the top half of this Overview, has an annual passenger capacity of 90 million and an area of 15.5 million square feet (1.44 million square meters) — making it the world’s largest airport terminal building under a single roof.

Golden Gate Park is a 1,017-acre (412-hectare) urban park located in San Francisco, California. Its rectangular shape makes it comparable to Central Park in New York City; however, it is 20 percent larger, measuring roughly 3 miles (4.8 km) east to west and half a mile (0.8 km) north to south. With 24 million annual visitors in a typical year, Golden Gate Park is the third most-visited city park in the United States.

Residential development is seen in Boca Raton, Florida, USA. Because many cities in the state contain master-planned communities, often built on top of waterways in the latter half of the twentieth century, there are a number of intricate designs that are visible from the Overview perspective. Boca Raton is home to roughly 91,000 residents.

Lava flow surrounds a home on the Spanish Canary Island of La Palma, where the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on Sunday. Spurred by more than 20,000 earthquake tremors in the span of a week, it is the first major eruption here since 1971. As shown in the second and third Overviews, the intense lava sprays and plumes of smoke have caused thousands to be evacuated from the surrounding area and many structures have already been destroyed.

I am so shocked that this “Tear Drop” 9/11 memorial exists right across from NYC and yet we do not hear about it. This is a 100-foot tall monument given to the U.S. back in 2006 by the Russian people in memory of all those that lost their lives on 9/11. The breaking in the cracked facade forms the shape of the two towers. The giant suspended tear drop symbolizes all the tears the world had shed in response to this terrifying day. Absolutely beautiful. It is located in Bayonne, New Jersey, which is just on the other side of the water near the Statue of Liberty. It is a shame that such a beautiful memorial is given barely any attention and I think it should be shown every year around this time. Feel free to share this post to your walls!

A world worth saving. Located in the backyard of the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple, lays this 1400-year-old Ginkgo tree that sheds golden leaves. The Ginkgo Biloba is the last surviving species from an ancient group of Chinese trees, that are older than the dinosaurs.

Clouds surround the volcanic peak of Atlasov Island in Russia. Recorded volcanic activity here dates back to 1790 and continues to present day, as seen with the ash plumes in this Overview captured in August 2019. Atlasov, the northernmost of the Kuril Islands, is uninhabited and rises 7,674 feet (2,339 meters) above the Sea of Okhotsk.

In total, combined with neighboring Peter Cooper Village, its 110 red brick buildings contain 11,250 apartments, providing homes for slightly more than 21,000 people. The development, commonly known as StuyTown, opened in 1942 and primarily housed veterans returning to the United States from World War II.
