11/1/2017 17:23 | Back to cold winds and threats of snow coming. I agree with 'mbheesms' when he says 'Exciting Times!'. the next target for Arris is to get back to above $37 and I am looking forward to it and hope it is within 6 months. Remember to login for the Webcast Presentation tomorrow: Link for registering is: I wonder when the results will be announced? Last year it was around the 17th February. | alexmcdonald

09/1/2017 16:44 | @sikhthetech Exciting times! Comcast are clearly carefully managing their supply chains and technology risks, playing Intel against Broadcom and Arris against Technicolor. The potential of a retail strategy is that Comcast can shift boxes without being constrained by the throughput and availability of their installers. | mbhesms

09/1/2017 12:47 | Of @sikhthetech's two other stories,it is "Comcast's new 'Gateway' will manage your smart home" that gives me confidence in Arris. There was no indication that this is an Arris product in the story but it illustrates the prospect of a new and growing market in devices that act is an interface between wide area networks and the home. It won't be as easy as selling Premier League / NFL football packages and letting the money roll in that way. Customers will have to be educated into why they need to pay for all these IoT / home security services. My hope is that providing the infrastructure to monetise these gateways will be sufficiently complex to postpone the day they become commodity items. | mbhesms
09/1/2017 12:34 | @sikhthetech "Comcast replaces TiVo/Rovi with Gracenote for metadata", there is more buried in this story than just a switch of technology supplier buy Comcast. The story mentions "According to one source, Comcast made the switch due to its ongoing patent litigation with TiVo." TiVo were bought by Rovi who used to be called Macrovision when they bought Gemstar. Macrovision used lawsuits to protect its analogue copy protection system from devices designed to defeat it. Gemstar owned patents related to the Electronic Programme Guide (used by nearly every set-top box) which they exploited vigourously. TiVo has patents on digital video recording methods which earned them a $500 million settlement from Echostar (NDQ:SATS) plus licensing fees from EchoStar, Samsung, AT&T, Verizon, Google and others. Arris (née Pace) have used TiVo software in their products. My casual observation is that the value of IP and its licensing and litigation are factors that makes valuing technology businesses more difficult. Also I'm reminded of the quote: "It's not personal it's strictly business." | mbhesms

08/1/2017 14:01 | Headline: Newly Certified G.hn Products on Show at CES 2017 Link: Quote: Marvell showcases Wave 2 powerline technology, which both ARRIS and CIG have recently certified to achieve the HomeGrid Forum logo on their products. Wave 2 powerline technology provides a higher performance backbone network for whole home coverage for the ultra-peak broadband experience. Quote: With 4K OTT adoption expected to rise to 189 million global users by 2021, consumers are placing ever-growing demands on network throughput. G.hn is the number one technology to fulfil the needs for an in-home ultra-broadband experience, by extending Wi-Fi coverage and performance throughout the home and creating a true hybrid network over any of the available mediums. Commentary: Arris brand their G.hn enable routers with "Ripcurrent" (see post 49695). Arris makes some of its money by taking the technologies developed by device vendors like Intel, Broadcom and (here) Marvell, and making them consumer friendly. I think the ability to buy a home router then extend it by just plugging a device into a mains outlet is a key feature that will encourage consumers to buy more Arris retail products and encourage operators to sell-on Arris devices. | mbhesms

07/1/2017 12:38 | Headline: CES 2017: New routers defend smart homes against hacks URL: Quote: BitDefender unveiled a new version of its Box router while Arris revealed that it was adding Intel's security software to its devices Quote: Intel Security has signed a deal with hardware firm Arris to include its security software in a specially-made line of home protection routers. Intel has yet to release prices for these products Commentary: This raises awareness of security as a valuable feature when selecting a home router. Arris gets mentioned. | mbhesms
