13/10/2017 09:20 | City chatter speculating that Aldermore could be taken back into the hands of private equity just two-and-a-half years after floating lifted the challenger bank towards the top of the record high FTSE 250.The consensus of analysts believe that Aldermore is a cheap bet for investors at its current valuation, making it ripe for a takeover. However, Aldermore was only taken public in 2015 by private equity firm Anacap, which remains its top shareholder with a 25pc stake, and the mid-cap firm is more likely to be the subject of advances from another challenger bank looking to consolidate, according to one analyst. The swirling rumours and a short squeeze â" when a heavily shorted stock is pushed higher by short sellers closing their positions â" lifted Aldermore 10.1p to 256p on thick trading volumes with the wider FTSE 250 hitting its highest ever close at 20,251.24. Meanwhile, the pound sinking on stalling Brexit talks helped the FTSE 100 also climb to a record peak, the blue-chip index closing 22.43 points at 7556.24. | che7win

12/10/2017 11:53 | Yes, noted and pleased also to say that I hold ALD. Let's hope this trend for the Sector continues. I believe its not the first time that OSB made gains on Ex-Div day. | mazarin

06/10/2017 20:04 | You could well be right, although today's uplift was a little late even for US investors | mazarin
06/10/2017 19:45 | Maz, The US is keen on Banks right now, my hunch is it's the Americans buying OSB keenly right now hence the afternoon rises and my comments. | che7win
06/10/2017 17:45 | I find it strange to see how yesterday (on a day following a quite significant fall) during the morning session that very few buyers actually appeared interested in OSB and the share price slipped even further, when I had actually expected quite the reverse and yet only a little while later the 'buys' picked up after lunch. The same happened again today, to a lesser extent when it wasn't particularly in demand until quite late in the day then the 'buys' suddenly picked up. And yet over the last two days, absolutely nothing had fundamentally changed, as far as I was aware. It was well documented that OSB goes Ex-Div next week, so conceivably that may give an incentive to acquire before 12/10/17. But that was true both days, so why the sudden attention? It's as though 'the market' quite irrationally decides en masse to do what everyone else is doing, whether they're 'buying or selling'. I'm not complaining and only glad I disregarded the trend and bought in again when seemingly everyone else was determined to 'sell' near close last thing on Wednesday. The Art (or luck, in my case) was to try and determine the bottom and commit to 'buy'. | mazarin
