What does now stand out is the comment about developing dietary fibres for food. Now that they have figures for the fibre vs sugar content and as fibre is a natural source then will we see a partner appear to be first mover with what could be a truly awesome product. A confectionary company getting involved would set the share price alight as investors wake up to the potential...

DSM on bringing fermented stevia to Europe

One thing that does frustrate me though is why couldn't this be spelt out in an RNS! Why put in clues and secret coded messages that the ordinary punter won't understand!

Great spot Someuwin!!! One day the massive potential will dawn on investors, but I fear it needs to be rammed down their throats first!!

I'm tired of the soundbites and have sold a few today. No regrets as a profit is a profit. Will look to further reduce my holding at the end of Summer if the deals fail to materialise after the latest update from Ohara. There are better opportunities out there in the next 18 months however I do believe in the long-term - 3 to 5 years - patient investors will be rewarded here.

I asked SOH the following and got the response below:

"...I noticed that you have changed from referring to sweetbiotix as sweet natural healthy sugars to sweet natural healthy fibres. Is there any significance in this change in terms of commerciality? Or am I reading too much into it?"

Hi,

Yes. It’s a significant step forward and ignored by the market who are at this stage when we are early in the commercialisation phase unduly focused on short term sales revenues which are important but not critical given we have £2m in the bank.

Very well picked up. The clue is in my quote where I try to get across key points relevant to commercialisation and I say 'These may be classified as dietary fibres, which from an industry and consumer perspective, creates the prospect of substituting high calorie sugars with sweet healthy fibres'.

In our discussions with global partners in the consumer markets they want to be able to present products containing ingredients which show up as green on the traffic light system (or similar systems across the world). Our discussion with regulators in most major markets have given us confidence that we can label these are fibres. So commercially you could have a product which is sweet, high in fibre (green), and low in sugar (green). To exaggerate the point to get across the potential you could potentially have a healthy Mars bar (or similar snack). So this opens up the opportunity for healthy snacks and confectionary.

Feel free to share your observation with others and bring out what is in the RNS but ignored by most as they focus on short term sales revenue whilst ignoring something that industry recognises is a far greater value enhancer.

Best Wishes,

Stephen OHara

Elrico is probably on holiday? Well I am still buying to bring my self up to my 10% limit. I have come a cropper in the past by saying n announcement next week and when it delayed I get flack, I am tempted to buy another 100,000 shares but I don't want to be greedy and will keep to the rule that you should not hold more than 10% of the value of your portfolio in any one share. DIAMOND.

I dont blame elrico for taking a break, he has tried everything but alas to no avail. These are dark times, not only with opti but many of these type shares are similarly in the doldrums. Just a general market malaise. I still believe in the company, but it sure is hard, given the circumstances. Where will the share price be in September, i ask myself. Possibly at 85 again and things will look brighter, hopefully.

Zebbo, not related to our product but shows the lengths they will go to - to reduce the bitter, metallic aftertaste of stevia. We learnt yesterday from the taste testing study on sweetbiotix that:-- Customised oligosaccharides derived from Stevia showed a large reduction in bitterness whilst not affecting its sweetnessSo no need for the fermentation process!

Thank you primal. I guess most of us are long term holders in which case we have been been very patient. There has been a notable change in one long termer, elrico. Has he moved on, lost patience? Many view his posts as one of the best and makes himself available by email and pm. No posts and no return messages. It is not like elrico at all so has he sold and moved on? I would have expected some sort of comment after yesterdays news, but nothing. I am not slagging elrico off i am just wondering how many stale bulls have simply given up the ghost. Perhaps as trotters trading says, there are more important things in life. Anyway, good luck as he owes us nothing but we owe him a debt of gratitude for his posts and shared info.

From LSE

Not sure if there is any connection, but DSM who are working with Opti on sugars announced this today about stevia being less bitter and want to be first to market.
