08/8/2011 15:19 | Tug Boat Market Report February 2011 ... In order to ensure the excellence of its team, Wilson, Sons invested R$ 2 million in the acquisition of a tugboat operations simulator. Inaugurated in September, the equipment will help expanding the capacities of the 120 captains of the company in maneuvers that they are not used to carrying out. Wilson, Sons is the first Brazilian shipping company to use that technology. The new simulator will provide more efficiency of the professionals. "Our purpose is to virtually create a high degree of difficulty as making mistakes is only allowed in the simulator", says director of Wilson, Sons Rebocadores, Sergio Guedes. A week of training in the simulator is approx. equivalent to one year on board. There is also the possibility to simulate the handling of any kind of vessel with an azimuthing drive in the fleet of Wilson, Sons. The equipment reproduces extreme situations that cannot be simulated in the ocean, such as adverse wind conditions, loss of the engine and cable breaking. Before the acquisition, such more specific training was given by specialists coming from abroad. | piedro

20/7/2011 12:08 | Piedro - I understand where you're coming from and I have traded in and out here over the last couple of years but have generally held for 9-12 month stints. I still think it's cheap and judging by some of the trades going through today - so does someone else! Personally I'll wait for the chart to tell me to take some profit or for the story to change but at the moment I'm holding. I recently did some research on shares over the last 10 years where companies have paid a progressive dividend. Combined with share price growth over that period, OCN came top. NAI etc. | marknicho
20/7/2011 11:23 | Thank you for your thanks. Now I have a problem. I have been advised to sell out. The reason given being the strong Brazilian Real and inflation eating the profits. What do you think? | piedro
19/7/2011 17:25 | Piedro - I'd like to add my thanks too. | marknicho

15/7/2011 11:51 | [03.30.2011] 17h33m / By Gabriel Gomes Wilson, Sons To Build AHTSs Wilson, Sons intends by 2014 to be a definitive player in the AHTS boat market, used for positioning platforms and FPSOs. In order to comply with this target, the company has leased two vessels from a foreign oil operator in order to acquire know-how and technical knowledge about the model. The contracts are expected to last between 90 and 120 days. The company also wants to build AHTS boats in the future under the Brazilian flag at the Guarujá shipyard in São Paulo. To do this, it is investing US$ 40 million in drydock construction that will permit doubling the capacity at the yard to 5,500 tons/year. Anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels are vessels which supply oil rigs, tow them to location, anchor them up and, in a few cases, serve as an Emergency Rescue and Recovery Vessel (ERRV). AHTS vessels differ from Platform supply vessels (PSVs) in being fitted with winches for towing and anchor handling, having an open stern to allow the decking of anchors, and having more power to increase the bollard pull. The machinery is specifically designed for anchor handling operations. They also have arrangements for quick anchor release, which is operable from the bridge or other normally manned location in direct communication with the bridge. The reference load used in the design and testing of the towing winch is twice the static bollard pull. Other news ... the PSV Cormoran has been launched and can be seen operating from Guarujá | piedro

23/6/2011 14:46 | Piedro - I had a look at the site but unable to copy here. If able to copy them onto a website, maybe set up a dedicated website (free) at weebly.com or yola.com and include a link in your header? I use both weebly and Yola, but haven't tested to see if the images you want will display without upgrading to a payed site. | m.t.glass

17/6/2011 01:28 | Blackrock were a buyer last month... We have continued to look for international growth stocks, especially those exposed to the more reliably growing emerging markets. In April, we added a holding in International Personal Finance, and in May in Oceans Wilson. Oceans Wilson is the holding company for Wilson Sons, a long established port operator and port services business in Brazil. It stands to benefit from the increasing investment in Brazil's offshore oil industry and eventual increased oil production. | rambutan2 |
