Wrong choice of word Aleman, I note it was just a comment!

Awful day today, the SIPP lost -1.07% UU., NG. & BP. leading all the others. Pot lost -0.61% with SGC, LGEN & LLOY heading the bunch.

Ordered the new tv, went for a Panasonic 50" which I think is about as big as we can go without taking the place of the log burner as the main focal point of the room!

Last episode of Ripper Street this evening.

Not a forecast, MrP. Just a comment on recent weather here, where we've had it a bit cooler for longer, and July is running below average. There is plenty of time yet for summer to recover - but I have taken the smaller tomatoes pot into the house. I'm pleased to say some tomatoes in the larger pot are starting to yellow/orange a little, today.

An admission that inflation figures might be slightly underrecorded?

My run of eleven rises ended today but I'm quite pleased with only a 0.2% fall. Are the daily swings in the FTSE100 getting bigger? I think volatility might be increasing and wonder at rumours/allegations the VIX is being rigged.

Stayed grey and windy. 16.4C high but I could still imagine higher if the sun comes out soon, not that it looks like doing so..

Just typical isn't it Skinny. I do hope Aleman isn't right about his early autumn forecast, we haven't had our summer holiday on the boat yet!

Starting today, we're having the house re-rendered and painted - with quite a few areas being taken back to brick.

They were meant to start 2 weeks ago when it was lovely, settled and sunny!!

Worse day for some considerable time, just about everything fallen off a cliff.

Booked tickets to take grandson to New Forest Show on Wednesday, booked ages ago and it now looks like it will be the wettest day of the year, with continuous rain throughout the day. Wouldn't mind if it was the odd shower, that could add to the fun, but relentless rain would ruin a day we have all been looking forward to.

Early US Q2 earnings reports, today, are not looking good, with several misses already. Hibbett is a medium sized retailer with little or no ecommerce but it has been expanding store numbers and has over 1000. It's LfL fell from -4.9% in Q1 to -10% in Q2 in "very challenging" markets. Presumably, it's job creation will soon stop and many other US retailers have similarly been expanding outlets as profits have deteriorated. It will hit the employment trend hard fairly soon, I would imagine.

Still only 14C. I can see the central heating going on if the sun doesn't come out this afternoon.Rest of week expected to be cool and Wednesday to be a windy washout. Don't think the tomatoes will like that!

I see RYA news is leading airline stocks down a bit. Besides falling air fares, it looks like the Brexit fog is starting to cause them specific planning problems. I will keep saying the problem is not Brexit but the various factions trying to hinder and hijack it for partisan political gain. It seems to be exacerbating downward pressures at a time when the economic cycle was already tending towards slowdown.

Tech stocks have been driving US markets up on stretching valuations. Several report this week, starting with Alphabet (Google) today. It should be interesting to see if they can justify the optimism.

Good morning, all.

After a cooler weekend thanks to less sun, it feels positively chilly this morning. The kids complained of cold indoors again. I felt cold doing the school run in a jacket thanks to spotting rain and a vigorous northerly bringing us 13C - now only 14C. It's now felt autumnal for the best part of a week and that season's palette of colours is slowly developing. Morning shower time has seen condensation return a month or two early. The tomatoes look unhappy with less sun and slightly cooler tempeatures even though one plant has not produced a ripened product yet. (I am considering taking them indoors early.) The peppers have only just formed some nascent fruit buds yet we have a good crop of blackberries forming and have already collected a couple of dozen that taste fine even though the raspberries have only really got going. The plants seem confused by the summer's early start and potentially early finish.

I see CNCT produced nothing of interest in its update - so why the big fall prior? McColls interims are messed up with exceptionals yet better LfLs and slightly improved margins bode well for next year so I look forward to broker updates. I've found and posted two belated forecasts for BEG (after last week's results) which give slight or strong growth after years of falls. Their market seems to have turned the corner, which is probably not good news for the UK economy.

Ordered a new fridge/freezer from Curry's over the weekend. Despite them being busy we did manage to find someone knowledgeable and helpful and the actual transaction was quick and efficient. Let's see if it turns up tomorrow as promised! Have pretty much decided on the new tv too, just doing some measuring up to see which will fit in best with our existing layout. We'll be going Panasonic again as the overall quality just seems better than the LG & Samsung we were looking at. They had a very impressive new 58" but I suspect that will be just too overpowering, so I'm guessing we'll settle on the 55".

Screen looking a bit red this morning, other than current hero SPD

Morning

+0.14% yesterday with BGO +8.3% the best value riser and MARS -1.6% as the worst value faller. Folio small caps contributed well for me.

+1.7% for the week making the Folio YTD +12.12%.
A healthy week for dividends as well to put away for accrual.

Seem to have been breaking into all time high territory over recent weeks, this one is no exception.

Have a good w/e.

Good Morning.

My SIPP finished down 0.14%, +1.88% on the week and is +10.34% YTD.

We had a very enjoyable walk around some old London pubs yesterday afternoon - I got told off for repeatedly correcting our guide on his 'historical knowledge'!

£/€ lowest since last November.

Enjoy your weekend.

-0.47%, amidst a sea of red. A good week nonetheless at +2.08%. YTD +12.67%.

APF is the best value riser and POG the worst value faller. An offer for PAYS has come through today at 590p / share. I am not sure a bidding war will emerge. It is a shame as it is one of my few growth stocks and I am not sure there is anything else I want to buy right now. It will reduce my holdings to 44 stocks whereas 50 is the number I feel comfortable holding. More research is needed.

5/7 for me, with a couple of good guesses.

I'm down -0.521% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.467%), up +0.58% on the week (FTSE100 +1.01%) and up +4.40% YTD (FTSE100 +4.34% and HIX +2.40%).

Worst falls: CLLN -6.62%, S32 -2.19% and MARS -1.63%.

Best rises: BATS +1.11%, TATE +0.81% and AZN +0.57%.

Another funny day. Had a good pub lunch with friends.

We are off on a short cruise on Sunday for 7 nights, Oriana down the bay of Biscay and back. Be good while I am away. Enjoy the weekend.

+0.4%. YTD -3.9%.

A grey and breezy day with brief bright spells. 21.6C. We could still do with rain but it looks like the South is going to get it as rather chilly weather spreads from the West. It was only 11C in central Wales after lunch. I think we are getting a taste of some of the cold weather that has been sat on Greenland. It would normally warm a bit over the North Atlantic but that is on the cool side at the moment. Given that the last 3 seasons all started a month early, maybe it's only to be expected for the weather to start turning autumnal a month early, too. Our increasinlgly yellow Great Poplar has released a significant scattering of leaves on the lawn in today's breeze.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

GE joins EBay and IBM as 3 big US company to disappoint in the last week. There's been numerous tiddlers, as well. There was talk of the restaurant chain sector picking up but Del Frisco results suggest otherwise.

I had not heard of AutoLiv but they turn over $10bn.
