I'm up +0.118% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.188%).

Best rises: CLLN +5.53%, INDV +3.51% and BLND +3.15%.

Worst falls: BATS -1.28%, SMDS -1.06% and BLT -0.76%.

Added to my holding of WMH today. A bit of a nothing day otherwise. I see that the CPI was unchanged this month. Down year on year but actually unchanged. Spin is everything.

Up a few coppers, today.

Not as warm as yesterday, at 25.5C, and cooling already a little in a northerly, which is a bit odd as the wind is supposed to be ESE, although I think it might be starting to swing around again. I hope that means thunderstorms are less likely - although we could do with rain again.

Very good day.
Two the same, one down, rest all up.

Warm, but with a friendly breeze.

+0.41%, doing better than yesterday when I held the biggest FTSE100 faller today I hold the highest riser.
[FTSE250 +0.48%]

Highest value risers : BGO +15.8%, IRV +4%, TCAP +1.9%, KCOM +2.5%, RMG +3.1%.

Worst value fallers : IGR -2.9%, LLPC -2.5%.

Another ST inspired move up for BGO, feeling giddy.
NAH is currently one of my worst value fallers as bought before the XD date plus top up, but has a respectable stock rank of 87/100 on Stockopedia.

Watched final of Fearless last night, was I missing something?

Dow seems to have suffered a mini plunge.

Unexpected.

RMG has a floor circa 400p it seems.

Both B of A and GSachs shares down slightly premarket but no obvious indications of trouble in Q2 numbers for the general economy.

I've been nibbling at NAH in recent weeks. It looks to have fallen too far after legislation changes, to mainly restrict whiplash claims, which they say will only affect about 30% of business. Yield is forecasted to fall from 15% to 10.5%. Chart looks like it is trying to break out of a 20-month downtrend. I like it when charts and fundamentals seem to work together. It doesn't always make you right but it seems to help improve odds, in my experience.

Reminds me about the old story of the professor faced with a class of Corbyn types....

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on this plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

When I was at school you scored from A to E, A=excellent and E=Very Poor. Everyone understood what the grade meant, personally I think it's made deliberately complicated for politically correct reasons ie-no one fails.

Bring back O-levels and A-levels! The replacements have all never reached the broad satisfaction they had. That will be yet more unnecessary upheaval for Mrs A. (I'm surprised she has not mentioned this to me.)

Last night wasn't so bad. I forgot to reset the thermometer but it was only 14C this morning. Tonight looks set to be a bit sticky, though.

My brother in law had a nasty accident mountain biking. Someone had not cut the excess from one of those plastic cable ties usedon fence wires so the loose wire whipped his arm and gave him a very nast cut that needed numerous stitches and a nice scar.

CPI 2.6% and RPI 3.5% - lower than expected. £ reported to have fallen sharply even though it is back to the same price as yesterday against the $ (1.302) after it was pushed up over night. It is down a bit aganinst the Euro but, even them, is similar to last week at 1.130. Producer prices fell again. Does this mean most of the Brexit currency issues are now mostly absorbed? Whilst demand for retail goods seems weakish, it might be a sign that margin pressure will ease from here.

I see there is a change to the grading system for GCSE exams from letters to numbers so the previous grades A - G now become 9 - 1 but I would have thought Grade 1 would be the highest and be the equivalent of Grade A, but no, believe it or not Grade 7 is the equivalent of the old Grade A! Grade 1 is for the lowest score and Grade 9 is considered "exceptional". Just another good reason to totally ignore exam grades when interviewing!

I get very confused with advfn when it comes to BRCI. The quote screen suggests the price hasn't moved this morning yet they are my biggest faller on the portfolio screen!

Looks like being a muggy day today. Yesterday we saw 27.1°C but it was sunny for most of the day and still warm in the evening, dropping to a low of 16.2°C overnight. Very overcast this morning and I have the air conditioning running ready for the promised thunder storms later!

Sorry to hear that Mr P. Downhill mountain biking is a fast growing sport in Canada and my son is addicted. It is worrisome. Rocks are a lot less forgiving than snow.

With my son resident in Canada I have more than a passing interest in the Canadian housing market. Fortunately where he lives on the Western edge of the Rockies prices are more reasonable and cheaper than most parts of UK.It does seem absurd given the vast size of the country ( British Columbia alone is bigger than the EU!) and relatively low population together with relatively low construction costs that they can generate a housing boom, ( Mr Carneys legacy!!)but I guess its concentrated in the big cities and fuelled by Chinese money. Big time bust coming I think.

Morning All.

Had some terrible news about a business acquaintance who managed to kill himself riding his mountain bike over the weekend. Don't have the full story but he was off-road at the time, came off and broke his neck. A stark warning for those of us that do enjoy a cycle ride, our bodies aren't as tough as we think!

Thanks, kiwi. That's useful to know.

Safestyle report volatile demand in recent weeks but Headlam seem steady. Royal Mail letter volume fall of 6% seems a bit steep, though it's doing fine elsewhere.

Aleman, there are probably two parts to the Canadian housing 'bust'

Firstly, and uniquely, the recent announcements of a 15% tax which will have to be paid by foreign buyers of housing property in both Toronto and Vancouver.

Secondly, and one which is thankfully also starting to affect prices here and Aus, is the clamp down by the Chinese government on the movement of money abroad.

Perhaps the clampdown on currency movement is also affecting parts of the London housing market too?

+0.84% buoyed by the miners. VED and KAZ were fighting for the top spot but VED won out in the end. The few fallers I have are all very modest, SFR takes the wooden spoon but nothing to keep me awake tonight.

Thank you for your kind words MrPhil. My daughter has already had her 15 minutes, being lucky enough to perform at Her Majesty's theatre on Haymarket. My proudest moment in her 'career' so far. The stage is where her heart lies but if I am honest I would prefer she chose a more academic career with a greater chance of success. Thankfully she is very sensible and is pursuing both, taking additional GCSE's in her lunchtime to give herself every chance. :-)

I was greeted by Morris Dancers on my cycle ride tonight. A most unexpected pleasure which tempted me to stop off for a drink. Clearly the landlord's plan bore fruit as there was quite a crowd. My problem was an absence of bike lights and it was getting quite dark by the time I arrived home. A lesson learned for next time.
