Morning All.

jhan66, thanks for the words on Zopa, sounds like I should leave it on the watchlist for now. Also, I don't think I can invest through the SIPP?

Hyden, that sounds a lovely trip, albeit tiring! Our bikes come out very rarely now, mainly lack of time, but not that we ever were cross country riders!

Despite fairly heavy rain for most of yesterday afternoon and evening, we still saw a high of 25.6°C and a pleasant low of 15.8°C last night. Solar dropped from the daily 13+kwh we have been enjoying down to 6.23kwh and I guess most of that was in the morning.

Tennis was rained off yesterday evening (very rare occurrence) but we got the conservatory cleaned up after the new roof was fitted. They do need to come back to sort out the guttering as several of the joints are leaking badly with more coming out of them than the downpipe!

Another poor start for the SIPP.

$640bn. Thats a big number. About 2.5 % of US Market Capitalisation. I wonder what the level of the stock market would be if you took away that additional demand? An argument could be made that stock buybacks is just a PONZI scheme on a gigantic scale. Any idea what the UK number is? I remember in the days when I used to play around spread betting on US/UK indices a good rule of thumb was US = 2*UK. If it deviated significantly from that it usually quickly reverted to the mean. It is now 3*UK. I wonder if the difference is share buybacks?

Forecast for today is raining all day and 11 degrees. Have put the central heating back on!

Good Morning.

Sounds like an enjoyable break Hyden.

I'm not sure exactly how much rain fell yesterday, but it rained for the best part of 18 hours from about midday until 6 this morning - torrential for prolonged periods.

It looks like my freesias have taken quite a battering.

US stock buy-backs forecasted at $640bn for 2017. This could be a new record or not. It depends who you listen to. But it still means companies are running up debt rapidly to boost eps related directors' remuneration at time when economies look to be slowing.

Phil, re 44079. I have a chunky amount in Zopa & been very pleased with it for a few years now. Safe & simple with excellent reporting, tax statements etc.
But they're dropping standard product from December 2017, replacing with Zopa Core. The new product has no protection, they're dropping 'Safeguard' for tax reasons. That, plus the increasing default rates make think I need to find a new home.

-0.32% since w/e.

Today
IGR +3.8% was best value riser following strong FY results, Folio constituent since Dec 14.
PHTM -5.2% worst value faller following it's FY results, maybe market was expecting better, disappointing that the Japanese ID scheme is not taking off yet.
Both co's increased their dividend by 80% and 20% respectively.

Floodlit Pink ball CC cricket has missed the rain here so far today, watched the full game yesterday, not exactly the warm balmy evening the organisers were looking for.

-0.45% today and down 1.03% since last Wednesday.

I enjoyed a fantastic weekend away, 105 miles cycling with almost 13,000ft of off-road climbing. Alas I am paying the price now but it was worth it. The scenery was fantastic and the weather was much kinder than forecast, so much so that I came back with a red faced tan on the Sunday.

I am already planning the next adventure and at least it is taking my mind off the recent poor performance of my portfolio.

I feel your pain with CLLN wllm, I too am underwater and am now expecting a dividend cut or complete cancellation, in spite of my earlier assertion that it would be maintained.

I'm down -0.616% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.167%).

Worst falls: WMH -4.46%, CLLN -2.91% and ADM -2.25%.

Best rises: RIO +3.27%, S32 +3.08% and BLT +2.36%.

A good day for miners and oils. Not enough to offset the losses elsewhere for me.

A quick trip to Brighton Marina this morning, where the Baggage Factory was able to supply me with a new suitcase, to replace my old one which lost a wheel at the hands of the airline 8 years ago. Up to now it hasn't mattered, as I didn't have to cope other than to get it into the car at Southampton. However, we are going on a river cruise which involves two train journeys outward, Eurostar to Paris and TGV to Basel, and that would be more of a challenge. The new one is a discontinued line, heavily marked down, and has 2 wheels rather than the fashionable 4 castors, which always strike me as vulnerable.

Lunch at the Marina and we were home before the rain started.

SIPP -0.66% NG., SSE & UU. and the pot -0.40% AMS, SGC & RR.

Supposed to be tennis this evening but the rain has arrived and seems to be set in for the duration. They got the new conservatory roof finished just in time!

Looks like there is no need to record Broken.

A wet afternoon after a grey morning @20°C - saves on a lot of watering this evening!

-0.4% It's starting to feel like a recessionary downturn again to me. Some shares are going down for no obvious reason. although fund managers do odd things at quarter-end. CNCT fell 3%. Their forward yield is now 8.5% after a recent increase to the interim divi. I see no reason for them to fall so much but their yield hit double figures in the last recession and I would not be surprised if it happened again. They kept increasing the dividend through that, though, and the shares rebounded strongly after.

Grey and wet but only a very slight breeze. 18.4C after 13.1C.

I'm getting crushed by my CLLN holding, thought I had got a good price at 211p a while back picking up a nice dividend along the way. Now locked in as losses to much to crystallize by selling. Painful to watch.

Just 3/10 on the cash machine quiz.

Glad to see the B of E is at least taking note of the loan situation.

Sadly I have none of the top 15 stocks on that list!

Even more sadly, my lot seem to be outperforming the ftse today, but the wrong way!

I looked at Zopa a few years back but never got around to funding my account. Anyone here invested with them?

I have 7 from the first page of that topyields link, but I'd prefer not to see the actual share prices drop quite so much!

UK yield options are starting to improve but you have to be careful. There is increasing choice as mid-cap profit warnings are taking more shares down. There are now 19 FTSE350 stocks with historic yields over 6% and another 19 yield between 5 and 6%.
