19/6/2017 08:43 | Morning All. Phew, that was a warm one! The shed thermometer recorded 30.1°C yesterday and it was still 28.8°C at tea time! Not too bad last night with a low of 16.3°C Skinny, I was going to say New Zealand Flax but I see Phormium is the correct name! We had this outside our conservatory which grew really well and looked fantastic but got totally out of hand so eventually had to go. At least we can see the rest of the garden now! Haven't seen a Hummingbird Hawk Moth in our garden for a few years now which is a shame as I think they are fantastic. Spotted a large Hornet on the Rambling Rector last week which was quite impressive and more than welcome as long as I don't catch him eating our bees! Nice start for the market this morning. | mrphil
19/6/2017 08:21 | Thanks Shadowside - I've added my sighting to the survey. | skinny
19/6/2017 08:00 | Skinny. Definitely a hummingbird hawk moth. They are the most delightful creatures. We very occasionally get them up here but havn't seen one for a couple of years. There's a site here that shows sightings hxxp://butterfly-con Had a few days walking in Nidderdale at the end of last week and saw a Tawny Owl and Barn Owl in the space of a few minutes walking back from the pub. Barn Owl was fantastic circling low over field. Although not strictly in the YDNP I think Nidderdale is the best dale for wildlife. Have seen quite a few kingfishers on the Nidd. | shadowside
19/6/2017 06:53 | Good morning. Wllmherk - wingspan @2 inches. All too familiar - The FTSE looks set to open up 50+ points. | skinny
18/6/2017 22:52 | a moth, it's massive, or appears to be ? wllm | wllmherk
18/6/2017 08:31 | A Hummingbird hawk-moth I believe? | skinny

18/6/2017 07:55 | Good Morning. Sitting in the garden yesterday evening, I heard this little fellow about 6 inches away. | skinny
17/6/2017 10:35 | Good Morning. Thanks Malcolm. | skinny
16/6/2017 23:44 | +0.7% today but yesterday's fall has left it's mark. -0.38% on the week and +10.94% YTD. PHNX is today's best value gainer and POG is the worst value faller. A nice evening off-road ride over the Cotswolds tonight with good friends, followed by a quick drink in a local pub. A really worthwhile end to the week. :-) Enjoy your weekend. | hyden
16/6/2017 22:47 | Restrictions on interest only mortgages and rate rises tipped to burst Australian housing bubble and push the economy into recession in 2017. | aleman
16/6/2017 20:27 | +0.83% today, +0.40% for the week. Highest value risers : IGR +3.4%, PHNX +2.9%, BEZ +3.9%, BA. +2.4%, BGO +3%. Worst value faller : PFC -1.9%. Folio YTD +9% Gov't need to get with it, too much complacency in Tory ranks for my liking, Corbyn on a roll. Have been running with 10% of Folio value extra in cash, should I be raising this. | blueliner
16/6/2017 20:27 | Skinny they look like they could be Phormiums . | malcolm caton
16/6/2017 18:10 | My SIPP finished up 0.87%, +0.54% on the week and is +10.11% YTD. We had a run down to Hastings and along to Pett level today and the Ateca behaved well - so far, so good. I've only had to use Youtube once and that was to find out how to enter a postcode into the Satnav - a common problem it would seem! The garden looks good MrP. There were quite a few of these between some houses and the beach - unfortunately none in flower, so difficult to tell exactly what they are. Enjoy your weekend. | skinny
16/6/2017 18:06 | I'm up +0.587% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.595%), down -0.74% on the week (FTSE100 -0.85%) and up +6.35% YTD (FTSE100 +4.49% and HIX +2.61%). Best rises: MARS +3.66%, BA. +2.44% and SMDS +2.30%. Worst falls: TSCO -4.92%, S32 -2.07% and MKS -1.88%. Looks like Amazon put the mokkers on the retailers today. Miners also suffering. Pub lunch today, with six of us there. They obviously had a wedding party staying. A good weekend for it. One had his left leg in a cast, was it due to the stag night? We have a garden party to go to tomorrow afternoon in Winchelsea. My old bus conducting stamping ground. It will have changed a lot. Enjoy the weekend heat. DF | deanforester
16/6/2017 17:40 | +0.2% today so flat for the week at -4.9%. Most of the indices were close to flat on the week, after the gyrations. Lots of tiny apples on the lawn. "June drop" has thinned out the ones not doing so well or attacked by worms. Bramleys look like they might be growing more quickly since there are fewer of them this year but dessert apples look to be doing fine despite a good number. We have a bumper crop of plums developing, not that we're big fans of plums. The neighbours will enjoy them. Hoping some lightening tomatoes mean we will get our first ones in a few weeks. Pepper plants seem to be very slow at developing. They must like it even hotter than tomatoes. Cloudy all day and slightly humid at times. No accurate high to report since today's high was lower than yesterday evening's reset, but somewhere around 21C or so. Supposedly sticky tonight but lack of sun and 19C now makes that seem unlikely here. A warmer weekend to come though, I hope everyone gets to enjoy it. | aleman
16/6/2017 17:39 | The property problem is very serious. So is Corbyn. The problem is that we are going to get Corbyn unless there is a change in attitude by Tories. Basically if it is business as usual you will get Corbyn eventually. There is a tower block in central Manchester, 28 of the 30 flats are unoccupied and are owned by foreign buyers. My own remedy for this problem is that if a person is not enrolled on the electrol roll of voters for a property then the council tax should be trippled. (This would protect couples with a second home since one could be registered in one property the other in the other). It is not OK that Tory councillors should be immune from prosecution when large numbers of people get cremated alive, due to their negligence. Tories in the recent election resorted to telling porkies far to much and an increasing number of floating voters saw through them. Weather - cooler with some clouds. Investments better than yesterday but still poor, I note bounce in LPA. | freddie ferret
16/6/2017 16:42 | Looks lovely MrP, is that a tree or piece of furniture ? wllm | wllmherk |
