20/2/2017 17:29 | -0.32% today. [FTSE250 +0.21%] Worst value faller : IRV -32%. Highest value riser : IGR +2.4%. IRV fall accounted for -0.62% of Folio. Sometimes I over react on bad news, it would have been wise to do so this morning. So it's a real mess with likely swingeing dividend cuts. Max 14C but just sunny periods. | blueliner
20/2/2017 17:15 | -0.2%. Can anyone offer me an explanation as to what should cause there to be 30 purchases of 115 shares scattered throughout the other trades in MCLS today? One sometimes see quite a few purchases of the same number but 30 is rather a lot. 14.5C was the high after about 10C overnight. The strengthening wind stopped us feeling much benefit, however, along with the fact we did not see any sun until about 3pm on what was otherwise a heavy grey day. | aleman
20/2/2017 17:14 | Skinny, not one that I hold I'm afraid. | mrphil
20/2/2017 17:11 | Perfect;y acceptable day with the SIPP edging ahead by +0.26% thanks to AV., LLOY & BRCI whilst the pot gained +1.09% with RR. providing the bulk of the gain, helped by LLOY & AIEA Been the warmest day of the year I gather. Certainly nice to grab lunch on Lee-on-the-Solent seafront today! Looks like catch-up tv tonight for non footballers. | mrphil
20/2/2017 17:08 | I've got a similar conundrum with AFC. My SIPP finished up 0.20% and looks to be +2.70% YTD. Has anyone digested the MGHI/U windup details? | skinny
20/2/2017 16:30 | I still have some VOG in the pot from the good old days when they were around £2.43 each and that was before a consolidation making my original several thousand pound investment worth around £35 a few months aqo. At that point I was tempted to make them a proper holding again as signs seemed to be looking good for them, but previous experience stopped me. They have more than doubled since then so my £35 has become £85 so it's a pity I never succumbed! | mrphil
20/2/2017 16:00 | Welcome back Skinny, and I would agree with Shadowside that only putting on 3lbs on a cruise must have involved great discipline! Just spotted we have recently quoted a nice project for one of the INTU properties so let's hope I gain from both sides! | mrphil
20/2/2017 13:00 | Hi Skinny.Welcome home. Would have thought 3lb on a cruise is a pretty good achievement.I suspect most of the Americans did much better(?) than that.Very different weather here with snow piled up in banks all over town.Good for skiing though and had a good first day.A balmy -7 forecast for today although it plunges to -16 by the weekend. Not much sign of spring here. Son and most of his friends are convinced climate change is beyond tipping point and earth heading for unstoppable environmental disaster which should make for some interesting pub conversations. Must be serious as he is thinking (sort of) of trading in his 6 litre petrol driven truck for something a little more fuel efficient! Better make the most of skiing while the snow lasts. | shadowside
20/2/2017 12:45 | Good Afternoon. A lovely day to come back to - its @16°C here and feeling quite Spring like. Plenty of crocuses are now in bloom and the Daffodils are @8" tall. According to my (obviously defective) scales, I've managed to put on 3lbs. The cruise was largely populated by Americans and I must say I've never seen so much gluttony and morbid obesity. | skinny
20/2/2017 10:33 | Greece saga rumbles on. IMF agrees with write-downs but lenders don't. Greece can't continue forever if it simply does not have the money. EU banks will have to take a hit sooner or later. I would have thought earlier would be better. Get it sorted and move on rather than let the problem grow bigger. MAybe they still want EU banks to get stronger before they take the hit. There will probably be knock on effects in Italy when it happens. | aleman
20/2/2017 09:01 | Pretty minor by comparison! | mrphil
20/2/2017 08:32 | Bad luck, bl. These warnings are getting harder to miss. 80% of Q4 results in. S&P500 p/e gets even more stretched as earnings disappoint again. Historic p/e of 21.5 is very high. Prospective 17.8 is relying on what are starting to look like very optimistic forecasts. | aleman
20/2/2017 08:28 | Morning Considerable Folio headache with IRV this morning with no quick resolution in sight, sitting on hands at present. HAYT not so worried, expecting a placing/RI[if lucky] here, only recent tiddler position taken. Temp 12C a fair day in prospect. | blueliner
20/2/2017 08:13 | Bad news in the UK is not from tiddlers any more - Hayward Tyler, Bovis and Interserve today. Of course, the FTSE100 opened up. | aleman
19/2/2017 17:06 | The grass got its first cut of the year. Nearly two bags filled compared to 8 or 9 for a summer cut. It looks nicer but the ex pond has sunk a bit more and could do with some levelling. The cuttings went on that instead of the compost heap. Hopefully, I won't have to cut for another month. Most snowdrops are out now and more daff shoots growing to add to some wwith heads but still waiting for coloured flowers to pop. Forecasted warmth for tomorrow and a bit of sun might do it. Today, we had 11.4C after 4.7C. There was a bright start after some overnight rain but it was heavily overcast in the afternoon. It dried enough to cut the grass and let the kids play out without coats Individual and corporate bankruptcies have started to rise in the US, too. These readings have the US about level with the UK but I still think US is ahead, looking at all the profit warnings there that are causing 2017 forecasts to be lowered. | aleman
18/2/2017 15:17 | RE colds. I take around a teaspoonfull of Turmeric with a pinch of pepper in oil each day. I have not had any problems with coughs and colds this winter, this is not normal for me, usually I get chest problems extending well into the spring. I do currently have problems with wisdom teeth coming through in the wrong places. | freddie ferret
18/2/2017 11:10 | Morning, 7/7 again, thanks DF. 4 guesses, either the questions are getting easier or I am absorbing too much trivia. -0.1% yesterday Highest value risers : IMB +3.2%, CLIG +1.8%, GSK +1.4%. Worst value fallers : BRWM -2.7%, BLT -1.4%, IRV -1.8%. +0.28% for the week, Folio YTD +4.28%. Short walk yesterday, Max temp 12C sunny. Enjoy the better temps. | blueliner
17/2/2017 19:34 | US-based Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) (www.csc.com) has announced that it is to cut more than 22% of its UK workforce in a move that could lead to 1,100 job losses, according to the Unite union. | aleman
17/2/2017 18:40 | Why did S&P 500 volume quadruple in December and broadly hold that level since? Very strange. Also, margin trading debt is now above 2000 and 2007. | aleman
17/2/2017 18:24 | Weekly News Quiz: 5/7 for me. Hard to find. I'm up +0.614% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.303%).up +2.09% on the week (FTSE100 +0.57%) and up 2.07% YTD (FTSE100 +2.20% and HIX +1.20%). Best rises: ULVR +13.4%, IMB +3.2% and SGRO +3.1%. Worst falls: RDSB -1.8% then BLT and MKS, both -1.4%. ULVR rejected the approach by Kraft Heinz. Part stock and part stock. If that goes through I shall sell in the market to avoid the US stock. SGRO posted good results and surprisingly rose. Other food stocks reacting to the ULVR bid. Had a pub lunch today, fish & chips at the Wheatsheaf in Cuckfield. Very nice. Enjoy the weekend. 17/2/2017 17:05 | A positive week all around with the exception of a tiny drop for the pot on the week. YTD figures are now SIPP +2.0%, pot +0.04% and the Virgin ISA +2.35% The managed funds are currently outperforming the individual shares and are on target to exceed them in value before the year end, assuming I keep sending the monthly contribution in that direction. Weather looking OK for the weekend with tomorrow good enough for a run out on the water, time permitting. Enjoy your weekends, whether at home or away! MrP | mrphil
17/2/2017 17:03 | -0.1%. YTD -4.6%. Most indices ended up despite "surprisingly" poor retail sales. A largely overcast day but slowly dried out and little wind so the 11.3C felt warm by recent standards. Better promised after tomorrow's rain which should bring the flowers out. We still only have most snowdrops out but crocuses and daffodils might be out next week with the promised warmth this weekend. The most obvious thing growing is the grass. I will need to tidy it soon when we get a dry spell. Have a good weekend, all. | aleman |
