Interesting. At the RBS/NatWest seminar earlier this week, they gave the impression they were expecting Hammond to cut corporation tax again and possibly NI

There seems to be a fairly steady stream of buys on DX. of late, with many of them showing on advfn as sells which I know for a fact as some of them have been mine!

Is that Theresa helping the pound?

Aleman, most of mine takes place within the SIPP so there is thankfully no tax issue, at least until I start drawing some out!

Always a good idea to put a bit on one side to cover capital gains tax when recycling profits after good runs. That way you don't have to sell shares after they have fallen again to meet tax bills.

Probably would not hurt to have a bit on one side to pick up some of these companies AFTER they've warned. More importantly, try to avoid holding BEFORE they warn. It might be a good time to avoid stuff that is more cyclical and consumer oriented - housing, banking, finance, consumer, retail, autos, engineering. Remember, it's your decision. I'm just saying it looks more and more to me like we are dropping into recession. It's debatable whether manufacturers can benefit from the falling £ if recession is starting. Maybe food manufacturers.Indeed, maybe part of the reason for the £'s fall is because we are dropping into recession, so it's not all Brexit's fault.

Good Morning.

a Respectable 4/7 for me this week and it was very nearly 5!

Getting colder ready for my holiday in The Lakes, a high of just 13.8°C yesterday and a chilly 5.8°C last night.

That can't be doing AZN much good Aleman?

Promising announcement from DX. this morning regarding the closing of the CMA investigation.

Profit warnings from RTC and Michelmerxh Brick. I find it hard to believe the UK is not going into recession with all these profit warnings about. Government debt and banking reserves are badly placed to be going into recession so it could be a bumpy ride. High immigration into an economy that has stopped creating jobs will add social issues on top of financial ones.

After taking into account the HAYT 'profit warning' left the Folio just +0.04% today.
[FTSE250 -0.53%]

Highest value risers : PHTM +5.8%, BRCI +2.9%, GVC +1.5%, CLIG +1.9%.

Worst value fallers : HAYT -8.3%, BA. -2.3%[xd].

Decided an early cut and run out of HAYT was necessary thereby missing the worst of the losses.
Will watch from the sidelines as has been a good investment for me.
Some of the proceeds recycled into more PHTM after their trading update and some of the rest into MIGO.

Happy to see another positive day. The SIPP managed +0.37% mainly thanks to BRCI but help also from SSE & LLOY. Only three risers amongst several fallers in the pot but they still managed to achieve +0.17% on the day. They were LLOY, LGEN & FDI with the latter having a good run of late.

I need to start getting the car ready for the long journey to The Lakes. Checked the tyres at lunchtime and pleased to see Halfords put the right pressure in the new ones last week! Will try and Rainex the windows this evening if I can see and it doesn't rain!

+0.6%.

Mostly sunny. 14.6C after 9.0C. Clearish skies and a light north wind suggest a cold one.

Weakest solar cycle for 200 years? Some theorise that we are entering the cooling period of this weak cycle. Most heat is absorbed by seas at the equator. That will cool a fraction of a degree but less heat coming north on the Atlantic conveyor and less moisture put into the air (which stores heat) will lead to greater drops in temperature as you approach more temperate regions. They will cool more than at the equator - but with a delay as it takes a couple of years for the cooler currents to reach up here. So, in theory, some cooling to be seen from 2018 and possibly quite a bit colder before warming again 2023 on.

Warm weather eh, I suppose it's all relative! We saw 14.5°C yesterday and a low last night of 7.5°C and we've had the log burner going most evenings, but I guess we're getting soft in our advancing years!

Can't decide about the flu vaccine, the other half had one recently but mainly after some troubles she had a few years back. I've never bothered as I feel knowing my luck I'd catch a different strain!

BRCI having a stonking day today and they are quite a major player in the SIPP so that's good news.

I've said no for Flu vaccine this year for my 3. I will reconsider if very poor field results improve to match the corporate trials so as to justify the risk of side effects.. No.2 had his preschool MMR and DTPP boosters recently. I have no problem with them at the moment although reserve judgement since the original MMR caused No. 3 to have febrile convulsions - which have since repeated recently. (They are usually harmless though very unpleasant for a parent to witness.) We are hoping he will grow out of this although it is linked to a slightly higher risk of epilepsy. Having had two react quite badly to MMR, I'm wondering if their details were logged in official statistics.

Ebay shares fell 7% after yesterday's close on weak growth numbers so arguably a profit warning there, too.

The headline says warm weather hurts clothing yet the text says rising prices hurt clothing and overall sales slowed in September, so the B of E might cut interest rates again. The £ is weakening again this morning. (Euro, $ and £ all to reach parity next year?)

Today's profit warnings come from Senior, Kellor, NCC and arguably Hayward Tyler. There were quite a few sharp risers among smallcaps but they are mostly shares that have already fallen a great deal this year. I can understand the FTSE100 holding up but I don't understand what is keeping smaller UK indices up with so much bad trading news about.
