When we hear these professional windbags debate we each attribute victory to the person that argues for things that we believe in.

Still, I am as bad as everyone else, I took a position here early on and wanted to hear some serious discussion about Natwest on this thread.

...and here I am talking about Farage.

Are banks in trouble as in 2008?

I worry a bit listening to Jamie Diamon and others.
They hold huge amounts of government bonds that when marked to market have collapsed in price.
As in 2008 bank balance sheets are in a mess again.
Not useless sub prime mortgages this time, but bonds that have crashed in value and potential bad debts.
Silly of me, but I think that billions of weak assets on the balance sheet are almost as important as who Farage banks with.

Some argue that central bankers could even be forced back into QE.

Adonis and Clegg both tried to take Farage on, live on telly debates.

He wiped the floor with both of them.

There were no other takers.

I doubt if Farage believes in some of the stuff he bangs on about.
He is just trying to earn a crust and please his fans.
I watch him on the cranks TV channel. He is much better with simple one liners. When the debate gets detailed he is lost.

Occupation...anti EU advocate.

I read that he was originally married to a German wife, his grown up kids are German citizens.
He qualifies for a handsome EU. pension, one of the reasons the UK still have to pay into the EU. budget.

Simple solutions to difficult problems are what he offers.

Nigel Farage would be great on Splitting image. Is it still being made?

I heard the production team just gave up because they couldn’t be inclusive and diverse but still keep to their satire mantra of exaggerated features. Too many idiots would be offended.

It’s quite a pathetic world we live in now.

When it all comes out in the wash, expect big fines for Nat West and other financial institutions who lie and treat their customers like dirt.10:38AMCity watchdog to review Natwest over Farage scandalThe Financial Conduct Authority has announced a review of NatWest after the taxpayer-backed bank admitted to "serious failings" when it closed Nigel Farage's bank account, Matt Oliver reports. On Friday the City watchdog said it was looking at "potential regulatory breaches" by the group and its subsidiary, Coutts, which shut down Mr Farage's bank accounts after staff claimed the former Brexit campaigner's values clashed with those of the bank. It came just minutes after NatWest said an independent review by Travers Smith, a law firm, had found the decision to "debank" Mr Farage was lawful but had not been handled correctly. The review argued the decision to close Mr Farage's account was largely for commercial reasons and suggested comments made by Dame Alison Rose, the former chief executive of NatWest, to a BBC journalist about the affair amounted to an "honest mistake". A separate investigation by the UK Information Commissioner has already established that Dame Alison, who resigned over the scandal, flouted data protection laws when she commented on Mr Farage's account. Mr Farage has branded the Travers Smith review "a whitewash". In a statement this morning, the FCA said the Travers Smith review had "highlighted potential regulatory breaches" and revealed it was now looking at how NatWest closes accounts, how it handles customer complaints and the firm's governance. As part of the investigation, the FCA said it will interview "relevant bank staff" - a cohort that could include Sir Howard Davies, the chairman who initially allowed Dame Alison to stay in post after she was accused of leaking Mr Farage's confidential information... todays fall is nothing to do with Farage, he should be ignored.

It is mostly about the fact that Nat West are being forced to pay more interest to depositors to avoid a flight of capital, making profit difficult

Who gives a damn about that idiot Farage.
Nat West is an important bank, how trivial is one single customer who failed to meet the wealth requirements of Coutts.

He is a failed politician although his fans would argue he helped the UK take control of its borders, stop immigration, freedom of movement, and release billions for the NHS.
Also free us from the total control of the Germans who he claimed were running our country.

What a clown, how he whips up he emotions of the simple minded baffles me.

"Nigel Farage’s"

Really, who cares, I actually like the fact he addresses things head on and as a strange looking bloke and funny character that belongs on spitting image with out any caricaturing needed lol,
This time next year this will not be spoken about unless further incidents happen.
News sensationalising, if they had real news they would not be jumping on low value news articles, but news is news you expect it fro them unless you want to report something then you can expect them to ignore you, I wonder if backhanders are happening there.
I had a really good news story once and I telephoned the local newspaper, he said it was a great story but he/they could not run with it because it could insight riots of the people if they found out.
So for your own protection your kept in the dark, that's how corrupt all this is, passive o missive syntax hello.

Its one of those massive debate's isn't it that has so many domino affects.

for example, if you want a state pension, you need working people paying into the system enough to support the payout each month as a pension doesn't physically exist, take off a paying working person and give to a receiving retired person, the first people to pay into this pension scheme was not paying into a pension scheme they where giving the government free money for 40+ years.
Now I have max pension credits and cannot possible get any more credits, I still have 11 years left to work, can I stop paying no, any other pension scheme you would or it would carry on getting bigger.

a shrinking population causes recession, a growing population causes growth, supply demand. All-sorts of things are affected my population, so I wounder if they really want to stop immigration, Can they say anything different and think the public will be behind them, it doesn't look like they want to, we have always had the right to refuse people regardless of when we was in the EU and there law.
I believe its a case of looking for the hidden ball under the cup and misdirection like this scenario points out.
Your in school at lunchtime and you go to the first serving hatch, the dinner lady says, would you like peas or beans.
How many options have you got ?

Answer is 3.

misdirection is to make you think 2.
you always have the option to not take any, they don't point it out and that misdirection is enough to herd most of the public in the country into what they want you to do.
Second massive this, entertainment, keep the public's mind busy and entertained and then they will not be scrutinising them they don't like it.
The problem is people do see it, but the ones that see are not enough, as the ones that don't the cattle are enough to do there bidding.
I don't see the government trying to stop immigration I just see them making noise about it

City watchdog to review NatWest over Farage failings

FCA is to interview bank staff to ‘to identify and address any significant shortcomings’

By
Matt Oliver
27 October 2023 • 10:19am

The City watchdog has launched a review into NatWest after the taxpayer-backed bank admitted to “serious failings” when it closed Nigel Farage’s bank account.

On Friday the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said it was looking at “potential regulatory breaches” by the group and its subsidiary, Coutts, which shut down Mr Farage’s bank accounts after staff claimed the former Brexit campaigner’s values clashed with those of the bank.

It came just minutes after NatWest said an independent review by Travers Smith, a law firm, had found the decision to “debank” Mr Farage was lawful but had not been handled correctly.

The review argued the decision to close Mr Farage’s account was largely for commercial reasons and suggested comments made by Dame Alison Rose, the former chief executive of NatWest, to a BBC journalist about the affair amounted to an “honest mistake”.

A separate investigation by the UK Information Commissioner has already established that Dame Alison, who resigned over the scandal, flouted data protection laws when she commented on Mr Farage’s account.

Market cap of under £17bn.
How are the mighty fallen.

Fred the shred started the rot, what a catastrophe.
Nat West was one of the Worlds largest banks by assets at about £2 trillion.
Sadly the liabilities were probably more.

Talk in America of banks being in trouble because of distressed commercial property debt.
Occupancy is still only 50% of pre pandemic levels, people do not want to commute to work anymore, they prefer to stay at home, walk the dog, pick the kids up and relax.
A hard day is a 30 minute zoom meeting, when they debate when to have the next meeting.
Distressed commercial property sales fetch discounts of 50% or more.

How are Nat West effected?

smithie6,
you seem to be a specialist in fake news or believe what Tory MPS peddle but they are a bunch of LIARS and you LIE too . The vast majority are NOT economic migrants as the majority of so called "illegals" are actual LEGAL as their asylum claims are accepted you clown !! Also, just because you arrive on a boat because there is no other way to come here , eg processing claims abroad, it does not make you an "illegal" . Hope you are bright enough to understand what i have said even if you are a flag waver for the Tories and no doubt a brexiteer who awaits the benefits of brexit to appear in 20 or 30 years if we are lucky. :)

Immigrants

"As long as they work it supports the economy, its if they don't work that's the issue.

Plus processing means the cannot work so processing needs to be quicker."

Btw
In Spain the ppl applying for asylum can not get an appointment to see an official & apply
...as a result they can't get any of the benefits for an asylum seeker...

While Spain has an almost open arms policy for immigrants.

If the benefits are very few & no right to work then a lot of those immigrants will depart to France, Germany

& the cushy UK.
Lots of benefits there !!

---
(If the UK wants to reduce the number of immigrants...forget about stopping the rubber boats imo
Just reduce the benefits, so they stay in France, Brussels (yihad people hotspot), Germany.
