23/6/2024 20:23 | "... the sector employs about 2,000 workers across the UK." You are off by about two orders of magnitude, | ![]() viscount1
23/6/2024 16:05 | Oil and gas provides about 75pc of the UK's energy demand and the sector employs about 2,000 workers across the UK.Labour will end Uk north sea o&g investment with their planned 78% windfall tax the proceeds from which they plan to fund their 'great british energy company' and lower people's energy billsFairytale politics | ![]() bargainsniper

21/6/2024 16:14 | Rado sorry but your example usecase of lightbulbs isnt useful. Electric Cars, Data Centers, Bitcoin mining, AI, Etc have a monumental impact on electricity requirements than an assumption that efficiency will mean less is needed, its the opposite. | ![]() jimpingle
21/6/2024 09:59 | You have to look at other factors 20years ago everyone was using filament type light bulbs, now days it's led with 80 to 90% efficiency of the older technology This can apply to all electrical items they becoming more efficient, using less electricityOnce the NG infrastructure updated, all these clean energy companies will able to transmit solar, wind, wave, bio, hydrogen etc etc through it's cables.NG shareholders have a bright future.IMHO. | rado6700

21/6/2024 09:42 | NG transport the stuff but companies produce it and if the stupidity of more North Sea tax prevails companies will likely moveout. UK then being even more reliant on imports just like food where 50% is from overseas. On energy as for most other stuff voters need to be aware that the leadership in Government and Parliament are not driven by practical laws. Surely any sane voter would vote for a party that at least seems practical and has some attendance to profit and loss; after all the UK is really just like a big company as far as fiscals are concerned; current balance sheet would suggest its not a good investment. I guess because the printing press is available the UK can never go bankrupt as it nearly did in the 1970's under - I can't remember. Still printing has repercussion on currency I think a gallon of petrol in the 60's was around 25p and now over £5. NG is of course a critical component in the energy supply SYSTEM but its not much good without the producers; and and with all the AI stuff (more data centres running 24 seven just for AI) the producers will need to be on overtime. PS Leaders, and those in waiting, can't even tell the just stop oil lot that we'd all starve if diesel is stopped as transport is of course all diesel. | ![]() colsmith
21/6/2024 09:41 | The relevant part of the Labour manifesto is here: hxxps://labour.org.u GB Energy will not affect NG much, and does not directly overlap with their activities in either grid or interconnectors. However it may further increase medium-term pressure for grid connections if it is successful in creating new renewable generation. I think that it is a stupid idea in that governments are very bad at making these sorts of investments and tend to get captured by private capital. Better to stick to streamlining planning and improving the incentive structure for the private actors involved in creating capacity. | ![]() viscount1

21/6/2024 03:16 | Vote for Reform guys, The Labour Landslide is fake news at its finest. Labour will destroy the UK Oil & Gas Sector and the entire UK. Save the North Sea, Save our Investments, Save our country. Get your family & friends on board, every vote counts! | ![]() jimpingle

20/6/2024 16:51 | Any views on this board about Labour's proposal of setting up Great British Energy company and it's likely effects on NG. It's quite sure that Labour would set up this company if they come to power. | ![]() ramprasad
20/6/2024 14:34 | Starmers Labour will 'responsibly' go after everybody elses money until it runs outThe voters will find out and then live to regret it like every other generation who trusted Labour would be the answer | ![]() bargainsniper
19/6/2024 14:14 | Approx 50% of the business is in the US, of the 50% in UK some of it is unregulated, ventures business etc. A lot of new sources of energy queuing up to be connected will be allowed to connect due to revamping the archaic planning laws. Labour have distanced themselves from the looney Left and Starmer has said that the Party is very different to what was in place under Corbyn. That doesn’t say that once in power the looney Left won’t try and influence Starmer, the unions are already trying it now but Starmer is standing firm. I am sceptical about Starmer and his ability to stave off the looneys, but that caution is the same as that taken by John Caudwell (billionaire businessman), a former Conservative donor, who has now endorsed Labour, when asked if he will donate to Labour he said he will “wait to see how Starmer does when in Government, before thinking about donating”. It might be that Starmer might be a repeat of Tony Blair and his type of Labour as apposed to Corbyn. Business didn’t do bad under Blair, it was left wing Brown that influenced policy and screwed up the ‘City’ ie selling off Gold at $250/ once, removing £5billion / year from pensions ( taxing dividend payments) and increasing Housing Stamp Duty from a standard 1%. | ![]() utyinv
19/6/2024 13:51 | NG is getting ready to let on on board these smaller solar powered, wind powered, and any other clean energy generators who have queued up for years to be connected to their grid.At the moment it's not possible, This 60Billion investment for the upgrade should sort this out in the next 5 years.Give them kudos for implementing this. | rado6700
19/6/2024 13:04 | How much 'defence' does the fact the NG operates in the US give from Labour's claws? | ![]() skinny
19/6/2024 12:37 | I was thinking about Labour's idea of setting up a publicly owned energy company to own, manage and operate clean energy projects across the country | ![]() gbh2
19/6/2024 12:32 | Any party that comesin it'll need a state of the art power transmission utility company It's unlikely to be nationalised because it will cripple the government as the sums involved are monumental and NG has spread to USA.Imho. | rado6700 |
