23/10/2012 12:10 | Yes. If you had 10 shares worth £86.40 and got 4 rights shares at £1.75 you had 14 shares market value £93.40 or £6.67 each. | miata
23/10/2012 11:20 | Skinny, Taking into account the RI of a few years ago, isn't £7.10 a new high full stop? The highest Grid have ever been was £8.64 / share, but this was before the RI when there were less shares in Circ. If an Investor had taken up all the RI entitlement doesn't the current price work out higher than the old £8.64? | utyinv

11/10/2012 13:29 | Ofgem's recent announcement about power margin shortfalls in the future may be their way of communicating to the public that new power stations / generation development together with the required system infrastructure that National Grid has to build to connect the generation to the customer is essential and a softening to their last harsh RIIO proposals, ie, maybe the final proposal due on 17th Dec will be a lot nicer to National Grid? | newbank

27/9/2012 09:02 | A bid at £9 per share? I should be so lucky. If GE wants to buy the US operations, I am sure that all they need to do is to ask nicely and offer the right price. This story does not have the ring of truth. | lord gnome
27/9/2012 08:24 | Thanks - I hadn't seen that, here's the link - The powers that be in the City are adamant that there is a multi-billion-pound takeover bid being hatched in the utilities sector. Corporate financiers have apparently been busy burning the midnight oil for weeks in order to bring the deal to light before the end of the month. All fingers yesterday were again pointed at National Grid. Shares of the operator of most of England's energy pylons and pipelines touched 693p amid growing speculation that GE Capital, the financial services unit of US giant General Electric, and its advisors are working on a cash offer well north of £9 a share. The close was 2p easier at 691.5p. The word is GE Capital wants to get its hands on National Grid's American activities and would be a seller of its UK operations. | skinny

22/9/2012 10:00 | Consultation period for the RIIO Draft has expired, now let's see what amendments OFGEM make as they prepare the final draft due in December. They should be told in no uncertain terms, National Grid is not a charity and if they want a good reliable and safe system the customer will have to pay for it. Shareholders have already endured pain in the last RI and now it's up to the Customers! When you think that the National Grid element of the consumer bill is less than 3% raising this to 6% is not unreasonable. To help consumers Ofgem should look at Generators and Suppliers and the Government should look at reducing VAT whilst also cutting unreasonable welfare state hand-outs to bolster the Treasury coffers. | utyinv

17/9/2012 16:25 | LONDON (SHARECAST) - Nomura has reiterated its positive stance about utilities group National Grid, saying that the firm remains a 'compelling growth story [with] rising visibility'. National Grid's regulated UK businesses, which make up around 61% of total earnings before interest and tax (EBIT), are in the process of a review by Ofgem. Nomura said that last month's initial proposals were "reasonable" and have boosted visibility. "National Grid is the stock with the most exposure to UK transmission an investment opportunity with increasingly visible, inflation-indexed returns, and an attractive 8% CAGR [compound annual growth rate] to 2021 a rare combination in an uncertain, low real return environment," the broker said on Friday morning. Meanwhile, Nomura reckons that the stock is cheap in the context of comparable investments, trading at 12.8 times next year's earnings compared with the sector-average multiple of 15. Nomura has maintained its 'buy' rating for National Grid and raises target price target slightly from 730p to 735p. At this target, the shares would trade at 13.5 times next year's earnings. "It remains one of our top 'buy' picks in European utilities," the broker said. By 11:43, shares were trading 0.37% higher at 688.51p. | mj19
11/9/2012 21:29 | Uty Agree, but they do see the company as something they can manipulate. Shareholders don't count for much in the scheme of things. So much for a free market! red | redartbmud
11/9/2012 20:03 | Regulatory uncertainty and market manipulation is keeping this share price too low. When the regulator realises that National Grid is not a Charity and if they (OFGEM) want to meet Energy targets of the future with sustained reliability then the unrealistic low RIIO draft will have to be drastically revised upwards. This share should be priced at £8 at current value. As for debt, this should be cancelled out by the value of the American business. If the regulator wants Grid to assume 50% debt as indicated in the RIIO draft then they should treat the Company favourably such that shareholders are not disadvantaged. | utyinv
