Questor: Ambitious investment in the grid could electrify our income portfolio
Income portfolio: attractive yield and defensive qualities make for a worthwhile investment |
Today, there was a very large rotation out of utilities into luxury stocks. Absolutely no specific negatives regarding NG. |
NG. & SSE in my top 5 holdings by value - so not a happy day! |
Almost back to breakeven :( |
Bounty, I may well buy in on any weakness (Nexans). Do we know who is tasked with building/supplying the battery back up for the grid, that may be a bigger opportunity. |
ESO only brings in revenue of less than £100mil
So why the sell off? NG without ESO should be £20/ share, removing the argument / liability once and for all, about Corbinists Left Wing dream to impose Marxist anti meritocracy on the UK.
We are a Capitalistic Country and business should be given a level playing field to operate and promote growth. |
Nexans (cable producer) is doing well again today however. I've updated the header putting NG. charts at the top and removed dated info. Also there's a small section about cable producers at the end. |
It's Blue Chip trashing day, not just NG and SSE, but VOD, BT, BATS, TSCO, etc.
Opportunity Knocks, haha. |
Its down because of the BOE rate cut is likely to stay the same..let's wait till 12pm today..might sort itself out after that |
Is Sir Kier and other Labour radicals trying to vandalise more of NG/SSE assets? |
FWIW :- HSBC raises National Grid price target to 1,180 (1,060) pence - 'buy' |
Both NG and SSE off over 2% today so sector related |
Utilities day?
NG. -2.71% SSE -2.23% SVT -1.68% |
Topping the FTSE 100 fallers today... |
Why the drop here 2.5% today anyone have an idea? |
NEXANS +5.92% today
This is probably the reason for that..
Nexans awarded contract for first transmission link from Orkney Islands in Scotland
"The significant contract includes both the production and the installation of the cable." |
FWIW :- Goldman Sachs raises National Grid price target to 1,135 (1,059) pence - 'buy' |
Lots of news this weekUK Inflation Report and US Interest rates on Wednesday and UK Interest rate on Thursday |
SMC, Nexans have interests in 41 countries, Ukraine is only one of them and the effect of the war will have been factored in before now. As evidenced by the chart this hasn't stopped the NEX share price rising significantly and progressively almost doubling over the last year. I agree that the share price will undoubtedly have been affected from the start of the war until factored in, and yes something to be aware of.
Comparing Nexans with Prysmian the two companies have been neck and neck over the past year. Over 5 years it's NKT followed by NEX then PRY in terms of performance, but NKT is not available as an investment with any of my brokers. |
bounty, llb, as an essential adjunct to a crazy electricity generation experiment NG are embarked on a crazy path from the point of view of economical and reliable electricity provision, but they are the only transmission show in town and as their charges to their customers are calculated on a 'cost plus' basis, the more money they borrow and spend the better it will be for the shareholders. Until the government decides it is time to nationalise the company and complete the electricity generation and transmission screw up itself, of course. At that point the dire consequences of government policy will be blamed on NG, and the compensation paid may be very small.
We should indeed all remember Railtrack. |
