Beware- only a small bit is high voltage cable, most is low and medium. Also they have an auto part factory in Ukraine that isn't doing too well. Better ones are Prysmian and NKT |
Nice chart |
Bounty.. how many miles if cable do we need? |
On that subject Railtrack was also such a roaring success :) |
#Viscount 1, do not overlook the roaring success that was British Rail.. :o)
The share price is all square now to the pre RI price, even after the dilution, but where will it go next as synergies, cost savings and efficiencies mount up ..? |
It was a Tory policy to spin out the ESO. Leveraging the famous ability of the government to run complex operations.
Prepare for it to be as successful and capable as the Post Office and Test & Trace. |
I've created a NEXANS thread for anyone interested.
NEXANS is a leading producer of cables essential for all types of electrical transmission. |
Miliband takes control of Britain's electricity network in £630m dealNew National Energy System Operator will oversee planning for the UK's gas system13 September 2024 5:04pmEd Miliband, the Energy Secretary, has announced a £630m deal that means the Government will take control of the organisation behind Britain's power systems. The Government has acquired the National Grid's electricity system operations unit, which is the division tasked with keeping the country's lights on and balancing supply with demand. |
I think this is very good for shareholders. Nicer if they have managed to get a premium for it. It removes the responsibility of risk on some decision making matters about electricity supply and hands that back to the public purse. NG will just be responsible for delivering the grid as asked for by the public body ... whether that is correct or not. I am sure they will all work closely together, but I actually think this is a significant de-risk in operations for the company. |
National Grid secures strong premium on the ESO sale
The RAB/NAV of the ESO was £425m at 31 Mar 2024, highlighting a strong premium on the sale of the asset at ~48%. |
"National Grid plc ("National Grid") is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with HM Government on the terms of the sale of National Grid's Electricity System Operator ("ESO") for an enterprise value of £630 million (the "Transaction"). The final cash consideration will be subject to customary closing adjustments (including for timing differences).
The Transaction is an important milestone for the creation of the independent National Energy System Operator ("NESO"). National Grid and HM Government expect to complete the Transaction on 1 October 2024 when HM Government, together with Ofgem, aim to establish NESO."

National Grid is its top European pick.
