James Burke recently on nanotechnology. He’s got a remarkable track record of correctly predicting the future.

More funding from Manchester University perhaps?

Also intriguing. Perhaps the final specs are dependent on RoHS.

Anybody's guess, although perhaps the BOD and II's know more? Display may finally make it and save the day. Much depends on the Rohs decision I think, but that's just a guess on my part.

Fund raise or asset sale. What will it be? And at what price?

Good information Nigwit. Unless the displays start to appear however, I can’t see the Plessey contract generating any major revenue in the next year or two, as the tech still looks embryonic. The company has a 7-8m hole in its finances to fix.

Here’s more on Plessey confirming they are using QDs now.

“Plessey uses quantum dots (QD) to achieve full color combining blue source with red and green QDs. However, if Micro LED pixels are smaller than 5μm, current QD materials will not be able to apply. During the presentation, Dr. WeiSin Tan, Director of Epitaxy and Advanced Product Development, also shared the latest progress of Plessey. Its 0.7-inch Micro LED display can achieve a resolution of 1080*1920 with a pixel pitch of only 8μm.”

The new patents keep coming too. Naasani alone had three approved in June.

“One aspect of the present invention is a nanoparticle that is rendered compatible with oxygen-excluding matrices, such as epoxy resins. "

Good evening pessimists.

According to this database on TFT Central AUO are just going starting production of several AMVA monitors that they specify as having 90% DCI-P3 colour gamut. This is the same specification as the ASUS 35” Quantum Dot monitor reviewed recently so it’s a fair bet they share the same technology and QDs. Importantly, last year’s cadmium-based QDs from AUO gave a wider gamut of 95%. I can’t think of any logical reason to offer a lesser specification other than a change to Cadmium-free QDs so, in turn, this logically implies that AUO are getting ready for the RoHS cadmium ban to take effect.

It may be worth noting that

1. Nanosys claim a higher DCI-P3 for their heavy metal-free dots (check their website).

And

2. Wah Hong’s shares are looking perky with no news on anything else to suggest a reason.

Wah Hong aren’t a big business. By my maths their MCap of 2.67bn Taiwanese Dollars comes to less than £70m so the QD market in display could be as significant to them as it is to Nanoco.

Please join the dots for yourselves. There may be nothing in it.

They may secures another roll of the dice if Lombard decide to fund it rather than sell the IP. IMHO. But personally I think the price will be high of this support.

Andycapped re your post 19649, I think the 'big guys stepping on Nano IP' may have been Dyson with their new lighting products. Dyson were describing the cad free QDs in their new lighting products as something like CFQD (ie a Nanoco trademark). I noticed it on the Dyson lighting website at the time and did briefly get excited that the use of a Nanoco trademark meant they were using Nanoco dots. Sadly it seems they were just a using a term they shouldn't be using (cos it's Nano's IP), which has now been removed.

I don't recall mentioning that Nanoco have had it, but there's much talk of why the shares aren't recovering as some predicted, and I'm pointing out the reasons why I think that is the case.

Nanoco are in a much more precarious position since the Apple contract was rescinded, and that is reflected in investors confidence. As PI's we simply don't know what is going on behind the scenes. We may get some more clarity in the end of year report, but I wouldn't bet on it going by past form.

Thanks Andy.Must admit I can't quite share your efforts to remind us that nano has very little hope of survival, sorry. It breeds support from all around. Not that I shouldn't know better, of course....Too many anomalies, so I remain optimistic.

IP is a double edged sword. You have to protect it and that can expensive, if you don't or can't afford to then it doesn't matter how many you have they become worthless.

Even if they scaled back operations, they still need a certain amount of revenue, and can't see present income generating enough to keep even a small one lab set-up solvent. Meanwhile the competition isn't sleeping.

Last update they mentioned some big guys had stepped on some of their IP. I wonder who that was, and what it was?

Nanoco can easily continue as a going concern by shrinking staffing and returning to a single lab to continue develop the IP. That was ‘plan B’ before the last raise and there will be plenty of ways to slim down again if needs be.

My own view FWIW is that, since Apple were so impressed that they paid up front for the Runcorn extension that, even though they stopped the specific project, all will come good one way or another either with Apple or an alternative camera manufacturer.

Since the technology came so close to success already I’m certain plenty of others will find uses for it.

Also, my eyes are on the RoHS website since I predict an uplift if the cadmium ban exemption extension is refused, which is the default position. In 2015 the recommendations followed about 4 months after the consultation so the new recommendation shouldn’t take many more weeks.

If you read all the documents on the RoHS website the only conclusion that can be reached is that the cadmium extension, which had the unforeseen consequence of cadmium-based QDs being improved, has been the major impediment to commercialization of Nanoco’s IP in display.

The 10% would be coming from sales of dots for Carewear, the agricultural lighting, Wah Hong etc. They may pull something out of the hat between now and then, but not much to go on so far is there.

If you're looking for a reference on when this was stated, it was around 21:34 minutes in on the interim updates during Brian Tenner's financial update.

Andycapped 90%?

After Dec where is the 10% coming from

Auditors will soon be planning their work and there are going to be conversations about Going concern coming up.

Touch and go whether they can demonstrate sufficient funding for the whole of FY20 IMHO
