I don't think Gleesons even have a defined benefit scheme hence no deficit.

anyone else noticed the statement from castle released today at 4.25pm, sounds like these guys are pretty miffed gleeson rejected their first approach and will now contact shareholders to discuss price they would accept to guage price for pending hostile bid...

good news IMHO

any chance of other potential suitors coming out of the woodwork now the co is effectively "in play" ??

News out from the S. Times, could be true, after the MANAGEMENT BUY-OUT did not go anywhere..........

MJ Gleeson receives bid approach - report

LONDON (AFX) - MJ Gleeson PLC has received a bid approach from a mystery
suitor that could value the engineering and housebuilding group at more than 200
mln stg, The Sunday Times reported, without citing sources.
It said industry rivals believe the company could be attractive to a private
equity buyer.
According to the newspaper the Takeover Panel is likely to put pressure on
chairman Dermot Gleeson tomorrow to confirm it has received an offer.
MJ Gleeson shares closed Friday at 333-3/4 pence, valuing the company at 172
mln stg.
The company could not be contacted for comment.

I am informed staff moral has increased by 100+% since the changes at the top, a disgruntled team is not a profit-making team.

Gleeson make 99% of their profit from commercial property, buying and selling a few offices is a daily task, the contracting side barely breaks even, but is a cash cow for the property side. I know I sat in one of their buildings overlooking Nelsons` Column!

well l i can say is that gleeson have just move out of their offices what they have been in for the best part of 80 years.
They are selling the offices on

shut 1 office in leeds (rented)
shut 1 down in Nottingham (rented)

and they are relocated to a newer office (rented)

streamlining the business hey???

making it look good for a take over

LAING
were rumoured a while back, I believe that the shares are too tightly held for anyone to succeed, family and staff hold a load, but, they could be persuaded by loadsamoney, it would have to be big though.
