Gleeson said in its interim statement on March 25 that it continued to 'examine the possibility' of transferring its investment portfolio 'into a non-recourse vehicle in conjunction with a financial partner'. Maybe news of this is approaching?

Refusing to return cash to shareholders, now looking for takeover partners is the way forward for Macs`, Kennedy is now in their pocket, and a great fit would be MJ Gleeson.
Gleeson have work on the London Underground, Civils and Project partnership with most large water companies, support services are their bread and butter.
Much more disCiplined than the likes of Amey, the staff are well motivated and get dicounted shares in the co.
Personally think Macs woUld be mad to miss them

But hey what do I know-heh,heh,heh,!

with Keller's stunning results out today, expect GLeeson to charge over the coming days. Same sector with results out in 4w or so. Low pe with chart showing promise of return to previous high. Could easily be a couple of quid in this over next few weeks.

Being linked to a possible merger or takeover of Artisan. Gleeson already has had joint ventures with Artisan in the past. See Artisan BB.

There are a few companies in this type of business that are at quite low valuations considering their record of growth and growth forecasts (e.g. MCA, KIE). They have been steadily rising over the last year, despite the bear market, but at these valuations could well carry on higher. One risk is if there is a downturn in the housing market. The construction industry looks as though it should be in for a good run with increased government spending and PFI contracts coming up.

The ROCE for GLE looks a bit low at 10%, so I would favour one of the other similar companies because of this (but do your own research).

Housebuilders market valuations seem to always be at a discount to the value of their assets. However, when MCA sold theirs to Barratt, they were paid a 25% premium to NAV. I think investors just don't like housebuilders as an investment, maybe because they are not very cash generative so can't pay a big dividend. However, this attitude seems to be changing.

This is another share I have been tucking away recently.
Full year results to end June 2001 out shortly.
Current market cap is about 100 million pounds.
Current net assets is going to be about 150 million pounds.
That is a huge discount to assets in a sector that has been
doing reasonably well.Namely housing, property and construction.
Check Gleeson homes website. They've got some really nice
developments with strong land bank.Worth 70 million in my opinion
Property could be worth another 70 million.
Construction has over 600 million of orders.Could bring in another
30 million profits.Downside protected by value of housing and property
business. With big potential upside in construction.
Balance sheet looks very healthy with still reducing interest rates.
Why such a big discount to net assets?
