About time we got a dividend. The directors need to wake up and release some value.

Jeffian, that was my understanding too, but then I read that telegraph article (dated Jan 4th 2015) I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the article and it may be sloppy reporting, but it clearly states that today is the last day C&C can make a bid (note in particular last para) PS: sounds like the reason is unrelated to that anyway (thanks for posting that philanderer)

timbo, It's already an agreed deal for Spirit to go to Greene King. C & C tried to gatecrash the deal. Keep up!

FT Alphaville couple of hours ago... Morgan Stanley on pubs, for instance. BE They like M&B. BE Not so keen on the others. BE It’s a 2015 preview and therefore a 79 page note, so don’t expect it to open quickly. Mitchells & Butlers PLC (MAB:LSE): Last: 398.60, up 20.3 (+5.37%), High: 400.40, Low: 384.90, Volume: 250.61k Changes: We are downgrading our JD Wetherspoon rating from Equal-weight to Underweight. This reflects the strong performance of the shares, slowing top-line momentum, ongoing pressure on margins, and the significant valuation premium to the peer group. While we see Wetherspoon as a strong and well-run operator with a proven and popular concept and an excellent long-term record, we think the attractions are fairly reflected in its premium multiple at the moment, and see downside risks to forecasts in the short term owing to ongoing margin pressure. We see 26% downside to our bear case and 24% upside to our bull case, leaving a wellbalanced risk-reward profile. With more attractive upside potential elsewhere in the sector, we downgrade to Underweight, with a relative preference for M&B. http://ftalphaville.ft.com/marketslive/2015-01-06/?

Might be something to do with this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/leisure/11324235/CandC-to-walk-away-from-Spirit-Pubs-takeover.html Last day today. If C&C don't go after Spirit, that only really leaves MAB or Stonegate (which is owned by PE)

RNS re FY extract ' Dividends ' The Board remains mindful of the attraction of the resumption of dividend payments and will continue to monitor anticipated net cash flow generation, before taking a decision on timing and quantum. ' As an element of the recent pensions valuation, referred to above, the Group has agreed that normal dividends will only be resumed provided they can initially be funded out of cash-flow after bond amortisation. ' LAST dividend I received was 4th February 2008 ...for period ending 7 YEARS AGO

"It comes to something when you have to blame the rain!" Ironically this Birmingham band originally called themselves the MB's in the hope of being sponsored by the brewery and then subsequently changed it to reflect their musical style https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bURh1-ZfNpw
