Sky news: Metro bank looking to offload ?4b mortgage book. May need additional capital post sale. My estimate is that the asset brings in around ?60m a year. It will be interesting to see the valuation. Multiplier of 10 would be good?

A muted reaction from the market. No 'buying on the rumour' here. I hope the sale enables MTRO to reduce some of its expensive debt - I'm not aware that a cash raise is needed here after the massive cash injection the business had from its recent share issue and loan raising. The cost cutting should be enabling profits by now - MTRO reports on H1 at the end of this month (31st July).

Potentially good news on the sale of the Mortgage book. At least this time they are in a position to get what it is worth rather than a 'fire' sale. Will be interesting to see how much they get for 1/3 of their loans.

Arborfield, I don't see redundancy costs as significant in going from 7 days to 6 days. My guess is that staff will be re-rostered and 'natural wastage' will account for the small reduction in headcount over a period of a few months. Staff turnover averages around 17% annually for most business in the UK and I imagine they had a few vacancies before the new opening hours started. The metro careers page shows just 13 vacancies and only one or two seem to be 'front of house'.

Also, the delayed reduction in base rate is good for mtro.

I think we will be seeing a step-change in profitability for mtro and a doubling of the shareprice in 12 months as it moves from 'distressed' to a well funded sustainable business.

The next update is scheduled for July 30th which should include some benefit from the cost reduction program so it will be interesting to see whether it is having the impact that most of us are hoping for. The only slight caution is that there will likely be a one off cost of doing the actions which may mean the headline numbers are not so positive. We need to look below those to see where we are really at, hope the market does as well.

Let me get this straight. You bash banks, BT, VOD, ITV, RR, and many others which have shown significant upside since you started your campaign, and you champion/ramp SYME?

I think you need to seek the support of a financial advisor II.
